Now, I wonder if we use our exception. Is there a thread about the exception and possible candidates?

I'm sure come trade deadline there could be some steals to be had.

Many have prognosticated that we only have that as an insurance option... basically if one of our key guys goes down for the year.

That make sense.

But I still think we should it for a younger SF, if possible. RJ won't be here forever, and going forward, we still need someone to take some of LeBron minutes.

I guess it's too early to be talking about the trade deadline.

It depends on how some of these guys perform. I thought we needed another big because I didn't trust Andy's health. If Andy stays healthy, then Kaun is fine. If he doesn't, then Kaun is going to have to perform at a higher level than he might be capable of.

I also thought we needed another wing. If Richard Jefferson still has gas left in the tank, he'll fill that need nicely. If he's like Shawn Marion, then it's an area that wasn't adequately addressed and will be a problem going forward.

I tend to agree with you. I sort of preferred a more proven NBA big like Hansbrough or Jeff Withey, given Varejao's health. I mention them because they signed minimum contracts and were attainable. I can see the point with Kaun though.

That said, Varejao has been able to fill the role needed of him to this point.

I think in addition to Kaun, the other piece they could have added was a guy who could play the 3/4. James Jones is an absolute sieve on defense and is immediately attacked by the opposing PF when he is at the 4, and RJ is more of a 2/3, especially now with all the injuries in the backcourt. Jones will realistically need to shoot over 40% from 3 to be a viable player.

You can't have everything though, and at full strength or close to it this team should have everything it needs to win.

I'm going to close this thread since it's not the Off-Season. There is a thread about the Exceptions, there is a Trades Forum, and you're welcome to create a new thread in Cavs Talk.
