CAVALIER NOTES

* The Cavalier's got an all important win over the Knicks after being humiliated at home against Dallas.
* This is the first game of a tough 6 game Western road trip that also features Golden State, Utah and Denver.
* Pavlovic should have his visa issues sorted out, and should be in uniform for the first time this season.
* With Sasha back, Coach Brown will likely utilise a 10 man rotation with Devin, Dwayne, Damon and Donyell joining Sasha from the bench.
* The Cavs were humbled in both games last season by the Suns, mistakenly trying to match them blow for blow in ugly attempts to play uptempo.

PHOENIX NOTES

* The Suns have started slowly with an unconvincing win over Seattle and a thumping at home at the hands of the mediocre Lakers.
* Steve Nash and Shaun Marion are flowing as usual, but the support cast look flat.
* Phoenix fans were very vocal with their boos during the Lakers game, so look for a turnaround similar to the Cavs after their Mavs effort.
* The Suns hit the road after the Cavs game, so a win will be vital if they want any momentum before they tough it out away from Phoenix.

TIPOFF

With the Suns coming off a loss against the Lakers, this game could go 2 ways. They could come out very pissed and take it to the Cavs and roll right over the top. Or the confidense levels could be dented and the Cavs may face a team that is shadow of its former self. If I was a betting man, I'd go with the former.

Daniel Gibson and Larry Hughes will be tested all night on the pick, and Nash will try and expose Ilgauskas. The ever active Marion will surely have Gooden guessing on the rotations after Nash goes to work on the high pick'n'rolls. A big key for the Cavs will be to keep the Suns bigs from getting numerous shots in the key. Stoudamire can be tempted into shooting J's which plays into the Cavs hands.

As for the Cavs, they really need to be disciplined and not get caught up in a track meet, in which the Suns would school us. LeBron needs to have the same attitude at against the Knicks and attack from the outset. His support cast needs to roll with him. Hope again will be with Boobie from the perimeter, but we will also need Ilgauskas and Gooden to give us some post points against a lineup that doesn't defend to well inside. As for the bench, well they need to step up some, and Sasha could be a spark eventually, maybe not first night in.

GAME FINAL

This one should be entertaining and I'm tipping LeBron to continue his form from the Knicks game. The Cavaliers will be in this most of the way, but I can see us being worn down, particulary without that active big man crucial to defend the Suns (Varejao). Suns by around 10.

HOT BUTTERED Donalds's prediction:

Cavs 89
Suns 117

(The Donny line-- 26pts, 9rbs, 6ast, 3stls, 1blk, 0to)

(8/13 fg/m) (6/10 3ptfg/m) (4/4fta/m)

Suns looked like absolute crap last night. I mean, Kobe played 25 minutes or so...that bad.

Sure, the Lakers couldn't miss. That said, Nash was forcing things, he had a nasty streak of turnovers. Finished with 3 assists and five turnovers.

Barbosa didn't really play until the fourth quarter until he decided to pad my fantasy stats. But those were the most misleading 23 points I've ever seen.

Make Amare shoot jumpshots, guard Marion, and we have a shot...if Nash plays like he did last night.

If coach Brown plays the aggressive/push it offense, Cavs win 110 to 104 in a nice shoot out and if coach Brown forces the slow half court game against Phoenix we lose 100 to 86.

Pavs will be back for Sunday's game. (I hope)

I think it would be a mistake to try and run with the suns. If we try and match the suns in a shoot out thats a big disadvantage for the cavs. Slow it down and turn it into a half court game, and we have a good chance at winning.

I'm 99% Positive Sasha will be available for this game. In an interview with him during the Knicks game he was asked if he'll be ready to play and he said he will be. Glad to see him back.

Lets hope he shaved.

edit :

The Cavs waited all summer for Pavlovic to come to terms. Now the team will only have to wait another day. The guard/forward is expected to play Sunday against Phoenix at the start of the Cavs' six-game West Coast trip.

The suns are a transition team, so we slow down the tempo we win. That and don't let them have any easy buckets by cutting off the passing lanes which PHO tried to do against LAL and it ended up in about 12 back-door dunks.

Pip, Tuna is out for tomorrow's game

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Cavaliers forward Donyell Marshall will miss Sunday's game against the Phoenix Suns because of a sprained right wrist.

Marshall is listed as day-to-day as Cleveland begins a six-game road trip, the team said Saturday. He averaged 2.5 points in the first two games.

Cavaliers guard Eric Snow has been out since the preseason with a sprained knee. Marshall and Snow will travel with the team during the road trip.

^^^ Well, that's it I guess..

Loss...

Hopefully this Nichols guy (who's already talking junk) can get out there and drop 30...Cause we're gonna miss Donald's 26..

Damn...

You suggest trying to beat the Sun's at their own game? Did you see what happened last year when we tried playing with that mentality? Pushing the ball on offense is nice, but getting into a track meet with the Suns is suicide. There is no way we can out shoot PHX.

Most people seem to sleep on PHX with regards to their defense. They are an excellent defensive team. How did Marion not make 1st team defense?

Keys to this game:

-Slow down the tempo

-Protect the ball (limit turnovers!)

-Exploit the Sun's lack of interior defense (time for Gooden and Z to step up)

-Pray that we can hit our shots.

Suns 110

Cavs 95

I hope I'm terribly wrong.

At least in my up tempo scenario I have the Cavs winning.

;)

Last year in playoffs Spurs played that up tempo style vs suns and won.

Last year in playoffs Spurs played that up tempo style vs suns and won.

And it seems as if the Spurs is the only team that is able to do that. You think we are as good as the Spurs?

They have are the most well-balanced team in the league. They can play at any pace and win because of the players they have. To state that just because the Spurs did it, we can do it, is not taking into account the differences in our two teams. Revisit last years finals to see the difference.

Edit: I don't mean to come off as overly pessimistic. I hope the Cavs can play their game and throw the Suns off-balance. I'm sure LeBron will have a huge game.

You are on the money Kavdawg. The Cavs have to be disciplined and try and slow the Suns down where possible.

Transition defense from Gibson, Hughes and LeBron will be vital tonight.
