Cavaliers Trade Ideas: 2022-23 regular season edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
With all these high demands out there right now, I can’t wait till 5 minutes before the trading deadline ends to see what the real demand is for Guys like Gordon, LeVert, Hield, etc etc…….

Just bc Stevens won us a few games means you aren't going to trade for say Brandon Ingram if he is available bc Stevens was good? This is a more extreme example but someone like Eric Gordon has a very clear skillset that we can easily fit into the rotation. He would instantly be our 2nd best playmaker on the perimeter. You play Okoro a bit less, drop the rando wing mins of Stevens/Windler (one of whom is probably gone in such a trade), and probably play Cedi a bit less. 100% worth it.

Brandon Ingram? Yes. Eric Gordon? No.

Gary Harris or Josh Hart would both be good vet presence. But not sure I want to block development over trying to make a run. its a very precarious place to be in. We dont need to add expiring talent unless almost free as we are not ready this year imo, but soon and so, so very young. Its exciting, but Gary Harris has to come cheap like a buy out, but if bought out, he might end up with the Lakers with falsehood for a championship run.

We will see.

Josh Hart was drafted the same year as Lauri Markkanen. Is Lauri considered a "vet presence," as well?

It's very clear that I'm the only one against selling assets for short term marginal improvements, and thats fine. I'll die on this hill alone. These suggestions feel like the Pelicans trading for Steven Adams (whom I love) and Eric Bledsoe.

My ideal trade deadline has zero trades for this team, and finish the year playing with house money. In the summer, resign Rubio, extend Garland, and make any other moves to supplement what was learned this season.

Eric Gordon isn't a point guard...
Of course not, he is a shot creating combo guard who can be a high usage engine in a pinch without a major drop in efficiency. We only have one player that does that right now. I dont think EG would cost us that much either...Rubio+Windler/Wade+2nd rounder.

Lauri is our oldest starter at 24, 2 years younger than Hart, but yeah I think Hart is closer to his ceiling than Markk, but not sure one has to do over the other.

For the record I like Josh Hart and think he would be a good grab, but I wouldnt include Okoro for Hart, but I would consider including our first. Our first isnt going to be worth as much, protect it against collapse and ending back in the lottery, but with each game that becomes less likely.

I don't see Eric Gordon as the missing piece to making the Cavaliers a championship team in 2022. His best role has always been as a backup SG, like what many view as Sexton's best role.

Unless a guy makes the Cavaliers a realistic championship team this year, or a foundational piece going forward, I don't think making a deal makes sense. Also, I'm pretty sure he'll cost more than Rubio, W or W, and a 2nd rounder.

So "vet presence" for you is about age, not years served? Kevin Pangos makes a great vet presence then, right?

EG has been underrated for a long time. He was a borderline allstar for years between NO and HOU. He is def in the tail end of that and probably best played as an ace 6th man right now, but as it is we don't have that so I dont dislike the move. If EG is more expensive than end of rotation guy+rubio contract+2nd, I have to think about it. I am pretty sure a team like LAL would give up a 1st for him yesterday. He has real value

Its about game and experience. Hart is in his 5th year, 2nd contract, if it makes you feel better I think Hart is entering his prime, maybe that wording makes you less angry? But I do think Hart brings some experience and skills that would help, he has been developed.

The funny thing about Eric Gordon is he's almost 3yrs older than Ricky Rubio, and has played 3600 more NBA minutes in his career, but people have been worried about Ricky's mileage...

Rubio had been a pro for 7 years before coming to the NBA tho. And at a very high level since he was starting for Spain at 16. I dont think any NBA player other than Saba Sr and Pablo Prigoni had as much mileage going into their rookie years.

It's not about being angry, it's about understanding your "logic"...both Lauri and Hart started their second contracts *this* season and are currently playing their 5th season...Lauri has played more minutes in his career than Hart has in his. The only "vet" experience Hart has over Lauri is the time he spent in college...
