Cavaliers Trade Ideas: 2022-23 regular season edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cleveland receives: Andrew Wiggins
Golden State receives: Lauri Markkanen, Cedi Osman & Dylan Windler

Why?
Cleveland fills the void @ small forward.
Golden State gets a nice stretch big that can play the 5, a good role player in Osman & they save a considerable amount of tax money.

PG: Garland / Rubio / Neto
SG: LeVert / Agbaji / Okoro
SF: Wiggins / Stevens
PF: Mobley / Love / Wade
C: Allen / Lopez
Coach: J.B. Bickerstaff

Dont hate it for us but GS def says no. Wiggins is the best player in this trade and I am not sure they accept even if we attach 2 1sts

Although the Dubs “might” sniff that trade because they are deep in the luxury tax with both Wiggins and Green looking to get paid!

I think Love for Wiggins is more likely but don't think either is particularly likely

I disagree. I don't think Wiggins is good. I won't trust Wiggins until he does something outside of GS. Dude was utter trash for years in Minny playing dumb and putting up empty stats. All of a sudden he goes to GS and starts thriving. How much of his improvement is the system vs him actually becoming good?

Thats fair. I think he has always had the tools, both physically and in terms of playstyle, but until he got to GS he never needed to really put them together in a meaningful way. Minny until Gupta and Rosas were in control was probably the 2nd worst situation in the league after Sac. I am optimistic that after being around guys like Steph, Dray, Nemanja Bjelica and Damion Lee, he has learned the value of working hard and using his gifts. Especially after the championship run where he was a very critical piece.

Did Wiggins himself change or did he just adapt to his current situation? I've seen players in all sports suck, then go to a good team and thrive, then fall apart after moving on to another team. Wiggins also being in line for a huge payday without knowing if he can find success without being in GS is worrisome. Until proven otherwise I see Wiggins as a product of the environment versus actually truly improving.

Wiggins is the exact same player he's always been.

This is the moment where you keep a cool head and don't overreact & overpay.

Cavaliers receive: Russell Westbrook, Talen Horton-Tucker, '27 & '29 unprotected firsts
Lakers receive: Kyrie Irving & Kevin Love
Nets receive: Collin Sexton (4y $80)

Why?
Cleveland goes for draft compensation.
Lakers try what's worked in the past by pairing James with his old Cleveland teammates.
Nets get a solid young player & massive tax savings.

I assume we waive russ? Not the worst return for Love but I'm sure BKN says no

^That trade doesn't work. Cavs can't take back $58 mil in salary while only sending out Love + Sexton because of BYC rules. Sending Sexton to LA is almost impossible in a 2 team trade since Lakers are over the lux tax line.

Now they could legally trade LeVert+Love for Westbrook + 2 FRP's. Of course they would likely immediately waive Westbrook but that is a ton of dead salary ($47mil) for a team trying to compete for the playoffs.

I think Westbrook would be helpful in a bench role. He was bad with the Lakers but this dude won an MVP not too long ago. He's not completely useless.

Lakers try to replicate the Cleveland big 3.
Nets get a solid young guard to replace Irving, a competent wing they're familiar with & filler to match salary.

He is useless to us. He wants to play like a superstar when he no longer has the athleticism to be that

I’ve always been a Westbrook fan but you are right…..he is a shell of his former self. And problem is HE DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THAT FACT!!!!

I'm not sure how or why anyone would be a Westbrook fan. His game was always trash despite the big numbers. He was the definition of a stat padder.
