Cavaliers Trade Ideas: 2022-23 regular season edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I’m actually kinda buying what this poster from RealGM is selling. As hard as it is to swallow the idea of trading Allen. And not that I would do it any time soon. If Garland and Mobley are off limits, and large expirings are worthless, we don’t have much to move outside him.

They dont have the assets outside of Allen to get a legit wing.

I have watched plenty of Cavs games this year and that is the exact reason why I said Allen. That isn't a shot at Allen, its actually the complete opposite, it is me speaking highly of his trade value. I dont think the core trio of Allen/Mobley/Garland will be the bests trio going forward. I think it will be limited. I think with time Mobley will be best at the 5 once he puts on some muscle and strength and I think adding a legit scoring wing will be very important. I also think Mobley is the most important asset they have and I would build around that. Garland is a great fit for Mobley going forward and I think building off the duo of those two will be better than building off the duo of Mobley/Allen.

So in my opinion I think the Cavs need a legit perimeter scorer. I dont think they will get one through the free agency and I dont see them getting one through the draft. So trade is the best way to get that and Allen is the only asset capable of getting that wing.

There is no chance I'm trading Jarrett Allen unless I'm getting a top 20 player back. That's not hyperbole, either.

I don't get why folks are so interested in making big changes to this roster, or accelerating it's timeline. This team goes because of dudes in their 5th year, or less, and a couple wily vets. Let them figure stuff out organically. Tinker. Use the assets that *aren't* one of the top players. They're playing amazing *without* this hypothetical top wing. Don't create a new hole just to get one; especially with Lauri and Cedi playing well.

I agree with you more and more with every game.

I could see some team offering something for Rubio. He helped Garland level up but I could see the Cavs willing to deal Rubio to find someone who fits in more for the future. That could be some of the Lavert rumors even thought I don't think I would do that trade.

It would be alot easier to trade Rubio if we had someone at least competent behind him to take over.

Trade for Lillard.

Portland gets

Kevin Love
Isaac Okoro
Colin Sexton
22 first
22 second
24 first

Cavs get

Damien Lillard
Robert Covington

Id go
LeVert + Turner
for
Sexton, Love, 1st and 2x 2nd

Would love for Cleveland to pick up another ball handler like LeVert or maybe NAW from teams who are struggling and buy on the dip

I kinda like that trade, but I'm concerned about LeVert's durability. The guy has been injury prone his entire career. Do we really need Turner with all the bigs we have?

How about this?

Cavs receive: Harrison Barnes & Buddy Hield
Kings receive: Kevin Love, Cedi Osman, Dylan Windler, top 10 protected '22 frp & two '22 srp's.

Why?
Cleveland gets a wing & a shooting guard, both seasoned vets.
Kings get a first round pick, a wing on a team friendly deal & another prospect. Love is added to match salary.

Given LeVert's contract, I just feel like we'd be giving up too much to get him and messing with our chemistry right now. I've read that the Knicks might be interested in LeVert - maybe he can go to the Knicks, Sexton to the Pacers and Barrett to the Cavs.

The idea with Turner is that he would be a solid back-up center. Bigs have been known to missing time during the year, so he would be an insurance if Allen or Mobley go down. LeVert injury is a concern, with less ball handling here in Cleveland, hopefully that would minimize that concern. The other thing is the salary stays about the same next year with both LeVert & Turner, plus the Cavs do not have to worry about Sextons pay raise. Losing only Love to Gain both LeVert and Turner to doesnt really mess too much with the team chemistry. And while losing Sexton is a big blow, LeVert has been known to put decent numbers before he got to Indiana and his 6ft 6" frame is better suited at the 2. And the Cavs might be able to bring back Rubio around the same salary next year.
My prefer pickup would be Nickeil Alexander-Walker as he is good ball handler, defensive player, has some size at 6ft 5" and is a 33% 3-point shooter and has been dropped to the 2nd unit. I think he would be cheaper to pick up.

Barnes isn't a wing at this stage and Hield hasn't had the same touch with the new basketball he has had in the past. This trade would be terrible for us.

I truly don't understand folks desire to upset what this team has going in hopes of being marginally better than they are and accelerating the timeline. The 4 best players on this team (Mobley, DG, JA and Lauri; not including Sexton) are in their 5th season or less. These dudes are young, but playing fantastic. The team is winning. They're in 5th place in the East, when many (including myself) thought they'd be competing for the 5th pick in the draft. They have 3 draft picks in 2022 and all of their picks going forward. Thanks to a resurgence, they only really have 1 "bad" contract, but aren't in cap hell.

Let this team breath. Let's see what they do. If they were closer to competing, or had no other options to improve going forward, that would be another thing. But Koby has done a better job than I expected him to and has a full arsenal to keep progressing. Patience, grasshopper.

I don’t think it’s so much about people wanting to comprise the integrity of this process and how it’s coming together.

The natural progression with most things usually comes in the form of ‘what’s the next step’ and forecasting how you get there.

I mean even when the Cavs won the title I was thinking how they could find ways to improve and possibly get back and repeat probably a couple days later and especially once the Warriors got Durant…

Now you’re starting to lay the foundation down and you’re seeing that natural progression taking place… I think the mindset changes however in terms of instead of looking for a star or a potential future star (like taking a flyer on Reddish) to now identifying a piece or 2 that can be woven into the fabric of what is going on here without changing the identity or chemistry….

Allen and Mobley are a fantastically successful combo this year and I think they complement each other very well. We are having transformative success with the unconventional twin towers scheme, why would we abandon that just to take a flyer at a more conventional sf? Why would we want to move Mobley to center so he can get the crap beaten out of him every night and have less space to develop his full range of skills because he's minding the paint all the time?
