Cavs Team Salary and Trade Assets

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'll get the list of training camp invites together in two weeks when camp starts. It's getting close.

Did I miss any training camp invites?

I'm confused. The Cavs did not have a 1st round pick in 2016. They did have one for 2017, but traded it to Portland in the Korver deal.
But I thought you couldn't be without a 1st round pick in consecutive years? What am I missing?

-Once the 2016 draft ended, the Stepien Rule resets for the next two seasons. I.E The Cavs have to either have a 2017 1st or a 2018 1st.

Before these 2 trades, the Cavs had:

-Their own 2017 1st
-Traded their 2018 1st to Portland in the Varejao trade
-Their own 2019 1st
-Their own 2020 1st
-Their own 2021 1st
-Their own 2022 1st

Meaning the closest 1st round pick they could trade was their own 2020 1st.

Before the Korver trade, the Cavs traded their own 2017 1st to Portland for the Cavs 2018 1st (This was allowed because the Cavs still have a 1st within the next two drafts by obtaining the 2018 1st).

That allowed the Cavs to then deal their own 2019 1st to Atlanta in the Korver deal.

Seeing reports that the Korver trade somehow created two TPE's.
The only way that makes any kind of sense is if we absorbed Korver into an old one, which seems odd. Is there any sense to be made there?

Seeing reports that the Korver trade somehow created two TPE's.

There has been at least one report about this (at least on twitter) but haven't seen full confirmation. The Korver trade could have created two TPEs for the Cavs if Williams was sent to the Hawks (absorbed into existing Hawks TPE) and Dunleavy was sent separately to the Hawks (absorbed into existing Hawks TPE). As you point out, that would mean that Korver would have to be absorbed into an existing TPE by the Cavs in a 3rd transaction. The only TPE big enough to absorb Korver's salary was the Varajeo TPE. This would shrink the Varejao TPE by $5.2M (expires in Feb) but create two new TPEs ($4.8M and $2M) that wouldn't expire until a year from now.

Haven't seen confirmation in print or on the salary websites that this is exactly how it went down. Dunleavy for Korver (salary match) and Mo absorbed by a Hawks TPE also seems viable.
