I figured it'd be a good idea to have somewhere that we can refer to and keep track of the picks we've acquired while rebuilding (again) ...on the way to our (second) championship.

Here's something that some people might find useful.

These are all draft combine measures except for the blue values that are are estimates and the hyper link values that point to their source.

I didn't include the bench press or lane agility because it isn't really clear what skills those measure on the basket ball court. Some guys do a lot of reps with the barbells, but look weak as anything on the floor. Some guys have bad lane agility, but get to the hoop at will in real life.

I didn't include weight because it changes so much. Maybe a current weight column would be interesting.

What is the most the Cavs can spend on a free agent this Summer?
Either the full MLE or taxpayer MLE, depending on what we do with Moz and Delly.

New cap projection for next year has the cap number at $92mil and the luxury tax at $111mil.

How does this affect the Cavs?

If you assume LeBron signs a 2 year max*, his salary will be $30.59 million. Add in salaries for KLove, Irving, TT, Shump, Frye, JR, Mo, Kaun and McRae**, and the Cavs are at $113.3mil, with Delly and Moz as free agents.

The number the Cavs would like to stay below is $115mil. This is known as the "apron". If the Cavs can stay below it for the entire season, they can execute a sign and trade and they can use the full MLE ($5.6mil) instead of the tax MLE ($3.4mil).

It seems very hard for the Cavs to stay under this $115mil number. It would likely take losing Delly and Moz as well as getting rid of someone like Frye or Shump.*** And even then, you still have 6 roster spots to fill on the cheap.

In relation to the Gasol rumors, it seems unlikely we can offer him the full 5.6mil MLE. More likely he'd have to settle for the 3.4mil.

*He can sign a 1 year max for $28.8 million and then get a full 5 year max next offseason.
**JR isn't guaranteed, but I assume we'll keep him. McRae is not guaranteed, but his salary is so low I expect we'll keep him as well. Everyone else is guaranteed.
***And by "get rid" I mean trade them to a team with cap space in which we'd likely have to attach a draft pick.

Great info, col63onel.

Is there another incentive to stay under the apron except for sign-and-trade eligibility and full MLE?
There is also the Bi-annual exception which is only available to teams under the apron.

If a team is under the tax level, it is easier to match salaries on trades.

Can you use the TPE in a S&T (to get a player?) I know you can't sign a player directly with the TPE.

Here's the S&T rules: http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q91

Looks like the main limitation would be "The Apron" and "the Taxpayer Mid-Level exception". If the Cavs are over the Apron or use the taxpayer MLE, they cannot do an S&T.

I updated the first post of this thread for the new year. If I missed anything, please post here. Naturally, the first few posts of this thread may be somewhat in flux...

I thought Mo opted in for 2.3 Million. Why does he have an estimated 3.99 million value in the salary cap chart?

I thought he was going to opt out and I put his free agent amount in there. I'll fix it up.

I got the salary list ready to go for the off season. Since we are more concerned with luxury tax than salary cap, I'm listing min salary guys with the amount that counts against the tax, not the actual salary.

@Douglar
Spotrac and Hoopshype both show Frye as being under contract in 2017-2018 for $7,420,912

He signed a 4 year deal with the Magic in the summer of 2014 that while it was a 4/32 million deal, started high and descends each year in value by about $400,000.

Cavs have 2 TPE's expiring today. Also cut Jones. Any chance of any movement before midnight?
