Cavs coaching search

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Drew is 10-1 as a fill in. If he turns the team around give him the job for next year. I hope the best for him!

Dan:"Larry, seems like you wouldn't want a contract extension"
Larry: "Why is that?"
Dan: You have a .909 winning percentage as an interim coach"
Larry: "Yeah, but.."
Dan: "You want me to go over your winning percentage your last time as a full time head coach?"
Larry: "No, the 1 million you are already paying me is fine."

Haha this guy won the game against the team Lue got blown out of by 22 points.

Mr Drew we begrudgingly give you 2-3M dollars.

It's honestly crazy. He had them run various coverages and we found that the switching was one of the least effective. Somehow tho it wasn't just a mismatch looking contest for the other team!

He just manages the game so much better took timeouts when they gave up easy buckets. Got guys out when they were getting tired. Ran some plays from the bench.

I can believe it if you told me that Lue is a brilliant tactician and all that. I bet he is. I bet that has a lot to do with his ability to improve over a series. No way can he manage a game like Larry Drew tho. It wasn't anything special, but it showed how bad Lue is at that.

I want the Cavs to not give in to his demands of an extra year and still have a problem with Zizic not playing, but of note last night was that he didn't run anyone into the ground minute wise. This is already an instant improvement over Lue.

Everyone keeps saying he gets extra money just being named interim coach, hut i am not sure that is true? It hasn't been reported that way..

Noooooooooo not that idiot. He’s still stuck in the 80s.

He may sound funny, but I wonder how A.C would do in a coaching role. he sees things on the court that some of our coaches either didn't see or understand. For example, he brings up an excellent point when he said that the Cavs are making it harder on themselves by switching everything on defense. He goes on to say that there is no accountability when you switch everything, and it brings unnecessary confusion. there has been a couple of times where our guards have been switched onto bigs.

I agree with your point that Drew should get a pay bump.

Did you watch the game though? Clarkson looked terrible for most of the game, Larry Drew rode him and he got hot like everyone on the floor at the end of the game. He had a stretch with the bench where he was a ball hog and looked like he was going to kill the lead by himself. TT didn't look like anything special out there today. Len had is way with him for most of the game.
I watched the game. I also am fully aware of his role off the bench and he did what he is supposed to do.

guys play poorly in the first half and good in the second half as well as vice versa.

I didn't really see anything that merited Clarkson getting pulled.

guy had 4 steals.

Tristan was on Len for 29 possessions. len scored 7 points. 2 fg attempts and 1 3 pointer.

Nance had Len for 17 possessions. gave up 8 points on 4 for 5 shooting to len.

Atlanta Hawks had 7 screen assist as a team. Tristan Thompson had 8.

57 possessions Thompson gave up 7 points

seems the Game stats support what I saw. Thompson blocked out. minimized Len getting the ball in scoring position and neutralized his matchup

Tristan can play at this level every night regardless of matchup

Larry Drew is also talking about playing Nance and Thompson at the same time

I have a bad feeling that Dan is gonna cave and pay Drew long term. I hope he doesn’t but that’s the precedent he has set so far in his ownership, he pays everyone when push comes to shove (except GMs). I’m really hoping for a Hammon or Udoka or Jarron Collins though even if it’s probably wishful thinking.

Ultimately with Clarkson if the shot is falling you let him do his thing. If it isn't you need to pull him quickly. Last night he didn't shoot well form deep, but he was able to score while driving the basket. Only turned the ball over once. Was aggressive on D and stripped the ball.

The only negative is once he gets the ball on offense he is unlikely to pass it. He wants to be an ISO player but problem is his skill set fits a less ball dominant role, but he's not good at playing off the ball.

I do like Clarkson scoring in some ways. He's averaging 16 points per game at this point. We have a long way to go, but he is a spark off the bench and his contract is done after next year. Come February when teams are looking for bench scoring he could be someone that is talked about in trade.

His assists got cut in half or worse since coming here, so have to wonder if the ISO heavy schemes influenced that. He was never going to be an assist machine but he averaged 3.3 per game last year with the Lakers in just under 24mpg. Not as good as his rookie campaign where he had a better than 2:1 A:TO ratio, bu this lowest assist numbers have come with the Cavs - and this year he is putting up the worst assist numbers of his career.

Getting those assists up just a bit to go with strong scoring makes Clarkson someone who may be tradeable on a contract that isn't expensive against the cap if he can score 15ppg off the bench.

I kind of like drew. More active than lue on the sidelines. Think a grizzled vet would be good for young core

Is Luke Walton even a good coach? Mike Brown could’ve gone 24-0 with the 73-9 Warriors.
