Cleveland Trades:

Drew Gooden - 2 years, 13.5M left
Cedric Simmons - 2 years, 3.3M left
Ira Newble - 1 year, 3.4M left
Shannon Brown - 1 year, 1M left
2nd round pick

Sacramento Trades:

Ron Artest - 2 years, 16.2M left (last year of deal is an 8.4M player option)
Kenny Thomas - 3 years, 23.7M left

Note: All salaries figures include this season

Why Cleveland does it: Ron Artest provides this team with two things it sorely lacks right now; defense and toughness. Artest is still a top notch defender that is capable of guarding multiple positions. Artest would allow LeBron to take the "easier" cover in a game as Artest would get the call vs the other teams top guy. Artest is definately a headcase, but this ship is already taking on water and sometimes you have to take risks to keep it afloat. Artest has also developed into a very capable scorer at 19.1 PPG so far this year and 18.8 PPG last year. Artest has also stated in the past that he would love playing with LeBron James and he also has a previous history with Mike Brown dating back to their Indiana days. Kenny Thomas has a bad contract and he's strictly filler. He might see 10-15 minutes a night as a backup big (Newble's current role). He doesn't not however, ruin this team's cap window as his contract would expire at the same time as Larry Hughes and Zydrunas Ilgauskas's do.

Why Sacramento does it: Sacramento is currently the worst rebounding team in the NBA at 39.0 per night with a -3.1 rebounding differential. Drew Gooden is far from a star, but he is a solid 13 PPG 9.1 RPG guy at the PF slot. His contract is also very reasonable for that kind of production. He has his flaws, especially with consistancy and defense, but he would definately help their rebounding issues and he has a cap friendly contract. Newble and Brown are 4.5M in expiring contracts this season. Simmons is a very young big man with some potential. This trade also allows them to unload Thomas who is their worst contract and it allows some of their younger guys some more playing time.

This deal saves Sacramento 16M dollars over the next two seasons.

7.5M next year
8.5M in 09/10

I dunno, I think Sacramento has made it more than obvious that Drew doesn't tickle their fancy...
