Cavs looking at Gasol?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Let's see here, all star caliber big man...

27 years old
7 feet tall
19 points per game
9 rebounds per game
50% shooter

Why would we want a guy like that on our team????

I'd much rather have Mike Bibby, but nothing will happen.

It's not a matter of not wanting him...it's a matter, once again, of not having the pieces to get him. Gasol has been shopped for as long as Bibby has...if not longer. Memphis wants the world for him. They wanted Deng (and more)from the Bulls last season, and wanted at least AV from the Cavs.

Would Gasol be a nice asset to this team? Would he help spread the floor? Can he post up with the best of them? Would he be LBJ's #2 scoring option? Do the Cavs have a legitimate shot at getting him? Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, and a resounding NO. The one piece that it would take to get him is arguably the Cavs 2nd best player right now and is unavailable until after the deadline, anyway. And, while Gasol may be better offensively than AV, AV is younger and developing a nice offensive game. AV rebounds better, and has a much bigger impact on his team than Gasol does because of his amazing defense and intangibles.

I would much rather find a cheaper and more complimentary PG or SG who can create and open up the offense with outside marksmanship. Replace Drew, fine...but replacing AV, who is arguably the most impotant Cav not named LeBron, and you change the chemistry the team has had going since AV returned from his "extended absence". As much as I thought he was overpricing himself during that time, he has proven that he is indeed worth alot more than I expected because of those intangibles and developing all around play.

I would love to have Gasol but there is no way I give up AV.. you can have whatever package of Snow, Marshall, Hughes, Newble, and Drew but Andy has proven to be a difference maker on this team.

To get a star quality type player in return like Gasol and perhaps Bibby (unless willing to gamble on a head case like Randolph) would require Gooden plus, with the plus being a first round pick, not the above mentioned guys we'd bedelighted to be rid of.

I have a problem with Gasol. Gasol was never mentally tough. He never made past through 1st round in POs and he also cost Spain the European Championship. But I think he'd work it out with LeBron though.

I don't think the Cavs have the right combination of players they can afford to give up, draft picks and contracts to get Gasol from Memphis. The Grizzlies aren't just going to give him away for a bunch of the Cavs junk. He's probably their most valuable trade piece.

I wouldn't mind Gasol here at all but don't see any way it could happen. The chances at getting a player like Bibby or Crawford are better.
