So now there will be a coaching change. OK, I hope that works.

But I think we now have an opportunity to re-assess exactly where we are, and how to move on from here.
Here is the major thing that changed.
The Cavs surprised themselves by acquiring an all-star quality center in Andre Drummond.
We also have a former all-star in Kevin Love. Perhaps Love could be energized by a traditional NBA groomed coach, and not a college coach. If nobody wants his contact, maybe we should make the most of his talents.
We also have another quality big man in Tristan Thompson. In fact, the Drummond/Thompson duo may be more effective together on the same team than elsewhere. Right now, the chances of resigning TT are probably less than 50/50. But we will see what plays out.
We also have a very fast rising player in KPJ.
We also have 2 undersized, but talented guards.

So I guess what I am saying is maybe this is an opportunity to try and contend NEXT season. No, maybe not a title contender, but maybe be a playoff team. Not just the 8th seed either.
We would obviously still need to improve the roster. (Perhaps split up our 2 undersized G in a trade with the Philly dumpster fire for Ben Simmons?)

Yeah, maybe I'm drinking the Kool aid, or maybe I see the glass as half full. All I am saying is that the cupboard is not bare. With smart moves, this can be a competitive team soon.

They should have shipped those Vets bums out before beginning of last season. Now we have 2 young guards who probably think practice and putting in effort is optional. They need to tank as hard as then can and pray they get the number 1 overall pick again. This FO is a joke and just puppets to Dan so we have no hope till we get a real GM and POBO. Instead of Kool-Aid I suggest something much stronger like RUM or Vodka because this is going to be a LONG-ASS rebuild unless Dan takes a backseat and we get extremely lucky with ping-pong balls.

Why would Philly part with Ben Simmons?
Because Philly will be a quick out in the playoffs and many people are thinking they will split up Embid and Simmons because they don't work well together.
We could use a super athletic player like him. Even if he is a poor shooter. But the point is, we would need to upgrade our roster with a talented veteran.

Very unlikely, but only way this happen in a dumpster fire sale is that Philly sends of Simmons, Horford and other bad contracts for something like Sexton, KLove, picks and fillers...

Simmons and Garland may be a good fit together if Garland finds his outside shooting... But man, would not want the team centered on a couple of Klutch clients, that plus the messy org the Cavs can be nuclear dumpster fire...

The Drummond addition has had me thinking this way too. We've got pretty good vets now with Drummond and Love, and Tristan off the bench I think has always been his best role. Drummond and TT actually really help each other just being able to split minutes at the center position. Drummond gets a chance to play an optimal amount of minutes, instead of playing 32-34 mins a game he can play 26 and maybe not be worn out at the end of games. Then Tristan can just play full tilt and bring energy off the bench and when he's got it going or the matchup is favorable, then he can close out some of these games. Seems like a good setup.

We have hit on some of these picks, Sexton and KPJ are players. With Garland and Windler, it's a little to early to determine what we have, but 2 out of 4, at worst is pretty good. Gonna have another high pick this year, hit on that and we'll be in a good position to fight for the 8th seed as soon as next season. Then your upside is basically how well our young players develop. I think we really need a two way wing out of this draft, some how some way, we need to find a young high level two-way wing.

Nothing will change until we get massive upgrades to the roster especially on the wings.
Love can not be relied upon and imo is pretty much done being a player you can consistently lean on. Simply must be traded.
TT won’t be back.

At this stage next season we could finish anywhere between 8-15th depending on Drummond’s fit + how we draft

Before people say I contradicted myself in the second paragraph, Orlando are an absolute train wreck and are 8th so you can probably get the 8th seed with 32wins

Agree that our future has vastly improved compared to the months prior.

However, we'd need to gut our team of likely 3+ young guys to get Big Ben Simmons. And that may well be worth it.

But in what world does it make sense to have him Drummond and Tristan on the same floor? As the 76ers struggle with spacing currently even with Horford, Harris, and Embiid being capable outside shooters.

I think Drummond and TT are a good match on the same team, NOT on the floor together.

I'm intrigued with Simmons. Not sure exactly how much trade value he has. Love his size, ability, and athleticism. But he can't, and won't shoot. Hell, he only shoots about 60% on free throws. He's a very flawed player.
Would they turn down Sexton and our 1st pick?

We got to get everything right going forward starting with the coach. Who there, it matters right? We do have some talent on the team; we got Drummond to try out. There are other positives too.
We need Windler to work out reasonably well but need to prepare as if it wont.

Philly isn't trading Ben Simmons for Sexton and a 1st round pick. Come on. They wouldn't trade Simmons for anyone on the Cavs' roster. He's a 23 year old all-star.

I don't think we actually need to hit a homerun on the coaching hire right now. It would be nice to get someone who's not a walking corpse. We just need someone who can put guys in position to succeed and help our young players develop, I think we just need someone who's young and competent. We don't have to get a young Popovich at this point, we just need someone who can lead the organization for the next few years and not shit all over themselves. The bar is pretty low. This team isn't realistically a contender for like 5 years at least, I think we just need someone who can get us up to that point. If they prove that they are a championship caliber coach along the way then great, but if not, it wouldn't be the worst thing to get to that point and realize we need a better coach to get us over the hump. At this point, the hump is nowhere in sight.

Coaching is currently not an issue.

Beilein's only objective at this time is player development, Porter Jr. Has taken off of late. It is worth letting this hire ride and not continuing with a coaching change whenever the wind blows. However, if he is not up to it, the three ring circus shall continue.
