The Cavs have signed undrafted Purdue G Dakota Mathias. He signed a partially guaranteed deal and will participate in the summer league.
Mathias shot 46.6% from 3. He also holds the school record for 3 pointers made.
He will join Zizic and Osman in the summer league.

Mathias has a shot at being another Delly. He is not the greatest athlete, but he studies his opponents deeply and his dad, a basketball coach, taught him that high level skill can make up for athleticism issues.

He may have been the best perimeter defender in the Big Ten. He meticulously researched his opponents, went over film, and would identify their tendencies so he could recognize them and anticipate what they would do. He's good off the ball and is a hard worker.

I could see him either getting a roster spot and being assigned to the D-League or signing a two-way deal.

Both he and Sexton are guys that put in a ton of work to go from being unknown to be recognized. Mathias went from an unknown to a three star prospect. His dad is a coach. His older brothers played. He has a gym attached to his parents house.

There's definitely something about the work ethic in the young guys coming in. Same goes for BBall IQ.

getting excited about this summer league team.
Koby was saying it could be crazy. Collin, Mathias, Cedi, Zizic. Lue is also going to be in Vegas working with the guys and sounds like Clarkson will be there to work with Lue as well.

They're also talking about Hood as a young piece, so I expect them to extend the tender and match any offer.

Younger player and they are changing up the development and talking a lot more about playing the young guys.

Cavaliers signed Bonzi Colson a 6-5 PF who's best skill was blocking shots at Notre Dame. Fun. Did get 2 BPG 1.7 SPG.

That is good to hear .. he is also long, unselfish and will play D ... From a great basketball area in Lima

7 foot wingspan. Would be a interesting player for a switching defense with the height and wingspan combo.

At what level was he coached by his dad

Could be he averaged 1.7 SPG and 2.2 BPG. But still the 6-5 Height and his lack of a 3 point shit could be a major hindrance. Should be fun to watch in SL though since he can block shots and force turnovers. Don't get to see much shot blocking during the regular season.

I watched his highlights. Definitely a interesting prospect. Built like a PF from the chest up and like a guard from the waist down. Looks to have a solid post game. Maybe someone you offer a two way contract to.

The summer league should be the way to find two way players now. We shouldn't be loading up on G-leaguers. International and undrafted rookies should be what we fill the roster out with to find our 2 two way players.

He dealt with foot injuries this past year and those are a concern - that's the reason why he didn't get drafted.

HE shot 43.3% from 3 during his junior year and fell off - likely due to the foot problems. Can those be corrected? What is the long term prognosis? Those are valid questions.

He's a good free throw shooter, so the shot is correctable and may have been off due to the foot issues. Is he past them? He's another gritty, tough player that fights hard. He averaged 2.8 BPG per 40 this past season.

He has often been compared to PJ Tucker - and Tucker was a 2nd round pick. Colson likely would have been picked there if not for the foot issues that plagued his season. If that is behind him, could be another guy that could be signed on the back end of the bench and sent to Canton or given a 2-way contract.

Both Colson and Mathias are good candidates for developmental 2-way players or guys that they can sign on minimum deals for two years that could end up being role players. Both have the potential to be good role players. Strong defense, hard working, smart players with a high basketball IQ. Sensing a pattern here.

Have to wonder if JR Smith is gonzo and if the work Lue wants to put in with Clarkson is a check on his basketball smarts. Guy has the athleticism and skill to be a solid roleplayer - but where's his head?

Zizic and Cedi are also hard workers. Looking forward to Summer League.

He is not graceful. Sir Dom will hate his legs haha

I think that is definitely the case with Clarkson. Head coaches usually take a backseat in summer league so it should give Lue a chance to try to coach Clarkson up and pick his brain.

I think Lue needs to know if Clarkson is worth keeping or if we have to go sign someone else to be our backup PG.

Clarkson better watch out we could always bring Calderon back.
