Cavs trade for 2019 lottery protected 1st, Knight, Chriss

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Getting old now.

We're a team in rebuilding.

We need every kind of 1st round pick we can take.

You do know it is possible to find a gem, or I mean, get lucky and find a gem!!

A guy like Kuzma was taken at #27, shit can and will happen.

Luck is still luck, and that's what we are trying for.

I'll take the Warriors 1st round pick too.

Jk. It’s hard to rack up 15 disagrees and feel good about yourself. If RCF Nation believes that we can use Houston’s crappy late first-rounders, then who am I to say otherwise?

I have a feeling the Cavs are stuck with that asshole until his contract is up. No trade rumors in months for that clown.

It's just that the unusual structure of his contract makes his contract far more valuable at the end of the season. A team can trade for him, unload a very expensive contract, and then cut him almost immediately and save $10M or so because it's only a partially guaranteed contract.

I like Kobys approach to trades. He seems not to drag them out for what would amount for same valve in the end. He now has time to focus on the more complex trades if they can be had.
I would agree with that however he can't afford to swing and miss ,then try to recover with a better trade later, like he did before in the Boston trade.

So who are the prospects that should be available at this pick (I assume it’ll be around 20-23)? I know there’s been some injuries to guys like Bol Bol and others that may drop them, and during a rebuild those are the types of guys we should be taking with these later picks we’ve been getting

That's 25 million now that they can send out with JR and Knight alone in the summer.

Are there any terrible max contracts that teams would be willing to unload for a package?

I think anyone poo-pooing this trade is insane.

A #1 pick in the 20 range is enough to actually move up a spot or two in the lottery on draft night.

That could be the difference between getting the player we really want to start the rebuild around or not.

On draft night, we wouldn't be phoning a team and saying "We'll give you Alec Burks and #3 for #2".......

Or maybe we would and the opposing GM would simply fart in the phone and hang up.

But they at least listen if we can say "We'll give you #3, #21 and a second for #2".

Keep it in perspective here.......that (Houston's first) is a really nice asset to package.....or simply to take the highest upside slider at that spot.

That's true, but I'd almost rather just use the pick. From what I've read - because I do zero of my own "evaluation" for the draft - this draft is more deep than top-heavy. Nobody other than Zion seems a sure thing in this draft, and nobody is trading that pick to us for lower picks in this draft.

So if it's going to be a crapshoot, I'd rather just take another player. Our roster is weak enough that we're going to need more than top 3 players to fill it.

I'd perhaps be more inclined to trade it for a future pick that projects to be higher.

So, can we expect any more excitement today? Or does it seem like we'll stand pat until the offseason?

Happy that we got more than we could have ever expected out of the Rodney Hood situation. Hopefully Koby Dogg doesn't turn this out Chris Grant style and they pick good players in the upcoming draft.

Also, I like the addition of Chriss.

For those that haven't seen him before, he's going to do some things that will absolutely WOW you. He'll have an electric dunk or block where you think "holy shit how isn't this kid a star?" Then he'll get lazy, take plays off, do ridiculously dumb things and you'll think "Holy shit, how is this kid even still in the league?"

He needs a fire lit under him, and he obviously needs a coaching staff beyond what we have. However, he's still young (21), has so much untapped potential it's scary. He's in a contract year also. If he can't play motivated for us, he can't play motivated for anyone as he'll be out of the league. This is his last chance, and it's upto him to realize that and do something about it.

The tools are there, trust me. Tremendous athlete.

Feel like we will get another 3nd pick for him either today or the summer

Don't know him at all, but the problem isn't the tools...it's the minutes. Do we bench Zizic and give his minutes to Chriss?
