Amazing what happens when you let a player play his actual game instead of miscasting him as something he's not.

It's shocking to use him as a wing instead of a forward. Go figure.

I harken back to when I was playing for the 97-98 Armco Heating & Cooling Hornets and we played a game against the Big Chuck & Lil John Jazz..

For weeks I was playing alongside a worthless, left handed shooting red headed kid that wore #9.... Leading up to that game for about a week I was donating his shoes to the trash and putting bowling shoes and stilettos in his locker...

He tried to practice with both... But that night he decided he was not going to play... So I ended up playing both the 2 and the 3 that night at the same time...

We went 4 on 5 the rest of the way that season and thrived..

Kid you not..

Doubt that kid could’ve got his shot off if Lil John Rinaldi covered him anyway.

Did that kid ever play the Channel 5 all stars? A matchup against red headed Dorothy Fuldheim might have given him a chance to knock down some threes.

Cedi had a recent interview (in Turkish):


Some highlights are

- Underlined he plays well within a system, this year his role is well defined and knows what is expected from him. Obviously he likes it.
- A lot of praise for Rubio and Garland. He seems to like them because they are not selfish. For Mobley and Allen as well. No mention of anyone else. In particular Sexton came up in the conversation but he did not say anything positive about him.
- He is very confident with his 3 point shot. He worked on it and his defense during the summer a lot. Proud to be hard worker.
- He also said he is mentally much stronger compared to previous seasons.

I was really surprised and happy to see the last point. I always thought his mental weakness was the main obstacle in his career. He was never confident in himself and things got to him easily. As a result he was never consistent. After a streak of maybe 10 excellent games, he could play the next 20 horribly. I was honestly expecting to see him break down similary this year as well. But he really seemed to have improved in this department. He explicitly stated it and it really showed when he talked about it.

I thought it was well established that Cedi was the go-to source for "Collin isn't liked by his teammates" anonymous quotes articles.

To be fair he did not say anything negative about Sexton. The conversation was just about his injury(along with other injuries) and not about his game. He did not comment on the other injured players as well, but it kind of stood out to me, since Sexton's injury is more serious. He could have something like we missed him. So it is a largely my inference that Cedi would like someone who does not share the ball at all. But it was obvious that he like the four guys(garland, rubio, allen, mobley) better.

Cedi is really coming on in his 5th season. In terms of points per shot attempt he's at 124.0 points per 100 shots. Last year he was at 98.2. His previous high was 112.5 as a rookie. That 124 puts him in the 90th percentile of "wings" per cleaningtheglass.com.

He's in the 65th percentile in assists per usage rate, which makes him an above average passer. That's consistent with his first four years.

His 3-point percentage is 42.1%, also a career high, which puts him in the 92nd percentile among wings. Last year he was in the 25th percentile. His effective field goal percentage is 61.2%, putting him in the 97th percentile, up from the 10th percentile last year.

Cedi's steal percentage is in the 86th percentile. He's developed into quite the opportunistic defender. His rebounding is still well below average on both the offensive and defensive glass, but part of that is playing mostly at the 3-point line on offense and having to compete with Allen, Markky, or Mobley for defensive boards.

So is this the Cedi or are we waiting for the other cedi-shoe to drop? This feels like the longest sustained success Osman has had with the Cavs so far. The dumb "f-ing Cedi" plays are nearly all gone from his game (he used to be good for like 3 a night). His rise as 6th man on a winning club is possibly the 2nd best thing to happen to him (noting his engagement to Ebru Sahin).

The counter thought: maybe it's the right time to move Cedi before he reverts back to multi-F'ing Cedi plays a night again.

Problem is its hard to find that kind of production for the great contract he has. If he continues to play like this he's only making like 7 mill next year and 6.5 or so the next year. Maybe you could find that production with someone on a rookie deal but teams aren't willing to give those guys up.

I'm on the fence every game lol....I think he comes back to earth somewhat but hopefully doesn't completely lose it like last year.
If they could add him to our 22 first rounder and get a wing piece that would be here for awhile I'd pull the trigger.

#1 I think the team has him in the right role now and knows they do

#2 his shooting last year is a bigger outlier than this year. It can take time to improve your shot and he said last year he was trying to speed up his shot. Appears to have worked.

#3 He looks more like the player we know from international play and he is not forcing it like he has been. Just playing within himself was really cool

He led the team in 3p% 2 years ago, so doing it again isn't so crazy I think.

I'd say he is about a single year late for developing consistency as a vet. That isn't that bad for a 2nd rounder.

I think he could still improve his finishing and playmaking.

I tend to agree you can't reproduce what he is giving at that number. Could be the very good role player in a future trade for a star if you add him to Sexton or Okoro and a pick. I think that is the situation I would trade him.

People want to trade for an Okoro replacement, but if we really want a stopgap, it is probably Cedi. I don't think he has played any min with the SL in place of Okoro.
