Personally, I'm kind of over the Chief Wahoo discussion. We rehash it every April and get the same results - some think it's offensive, some think it's just fine, a few talk about how much pride they have in it, and more than a few (like myself) are indifferent.

With that said, I'd seen Wahoo discussions spill into game threads, the 2016 Indians thread, and other places and I figure if anyone wants to discuss it, they can do so here. And those who are tired of the debate can avoid it.

I used to be adamantly for Chief Wahoo and against the people who I thought were nothing more than bleeding hearts and apologists for wanting to get rid of it because they somehow found it offensive even if they didn't have a single ounce of Native American heritage in their family tree.

That being said, I've since backed off those views. I know that it's a part of our team's history, and that it evokes many fond memories of those earlier teams from the 90s, but a logo like that just doesn't have a place in sports anymore. I don't know if I find it offensive so much as I just find it tacky and I can certainly respect the opinions of those who also feel it does not belong anymore. You can be offended and not be Native American, because at the end of the day some would argue that it's still a grotesque representation of other human beings.

I wouldn't necessarily have an issue with it if they featured it on a throwback uniform every once in awhile, but that's about it. And even then, people would probably still be up in arms about it.

Besides that, I've come to really like the minimalist logo, that C, that they have now, that is very much like the logos for many other teams in the league.

I've already discussed this to death. Everyone knows my stance on it. The Chief is actually one of my favorite logos in baseball. Not because 'XD wow that's so edgy bro!!' I just honestly think it's cool. The old Orioles bird was one of my favorites as well, and I think it is similar. Just a cartoony bird with a smile on his face. I like it. It's different.

I personally think most baseball logos suck. They trail far behind NFL and NBA logos imo.

I also think the block C is boring and I hate it. If we can't have the chief I would honestly rather switch names and have a different logo that isn't a block letter. Because the block C is unoriginal and retarded

Block C is just beyond awful. But if doing away with Wahoo gets people to shut up about it once and for all, fine.

If we don't get to keep our racist caricature as the main logo, change the name all together because it's a C.

That's certainly a take.

Alternate name suggestions?

I honestly don't know what you want sometimes.

I like the chief logo. I don't like the block logo. I personally would rather keep the chief logo and change nothing. But if the chief must go why is it such a stretch that the team be renamed? How is it that radical that retiring a logo could not possibly result in retiring a team name. It isn't as if we are going from one portrayal of an Indian to another portrayal of an Indian that I find less appealing. Then I agree it would be stupid. But this isn't the orioles going from an cartoony oriole to a more realistic looking... oriole. This is going from an Indian caricature to a letter that has nothing to do with the name Indians. So we will be named the Indians, and have absolutely no ties to anything Indian related, but changing the name is a hot take?

If you are trying to distance yourself from the whole chief wahoo/indians thing, how does it not make sense to change the name?

And for the record I'm not in favor of changing the name or the logo. But I think if you have a name that has absolutely nothing to do with the merchandise/logo of your team then it makes sense to look into just renaming the damn thing.

You can be very frustrating when we don't agree...

Alternate name suggestions?

I like it, but I guess I can understand how people are offended by it in today's culture.

The block C logo is too boring though. I like the one where it had the feather off the back.

The almighty Bomani has spoken. Gotta go with Caucasians...

Suck on that, PC America! We're actually going with it.

I think what I'm saying is pretty simple.

The logo is racist, so just get rid of the logo.

The block C or even a block I, or even some other logo would be more appropriate.

Don't really think anyone can argue the logo isn't racist, but more whether or not you're just going to keep it based on nothing but hardheadedness copped out with an argument about "tradition" or something.

Ok. We have established you want the logo gone, but you in no way addressed my point. If the logo goes, why does the name stay when the name will then have absolutely nothing to do with the new logo (and don't give me the block I nonsense. 'I' could stand for anything. FFS it could even stand for IGLOO). So why keep a name while so desperately trying to distance yourself from anything related to the name? Are you just going to keep it based on nothing but hardheadedness copped out with an argument about "tradition" or something?

I don't agree with your take on Chief Wahoo, the block C, and baseball logos in general, but the only reason I hit disagree is because of your bolded word choice.

If you can't express your feelings without using that word, you'd be best suited to just remain quiet.

Indians must be jelly over Chief's super white movie star teeth. So they get together and rage racism over a cartoonish character honoring their own. They also must be mad about the feather, it symbolizes a warrior spilling blood in a brave deed, Chief never did that....he doesn't deserve a feather.
