City does a 180... Lebron banner approved and being installed now

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Channel 3 just showed the banner on tv

Cleveland has the best weather in the country. lol:chuckles:

That is pretty funny. But another thing about Florida is that everyone is from somewhere else. You go to any sporting event, such as the Rays, and half the people that go to the game are rooting for the visiting team. Really it sucks. No unity at all. When I went up to Cleveland for a game in the regular season, it was refreshing to see that everyone was cheering for one team. I don't know. I just miss that. Plus Florida is full of a bunch a Gator yahoos.

^ Same way in Atlanta. The Hawks had a home playoff game today and 18,729 showed up to see it. Problem is, a sellout for a Hawks game is 20,150. LOL! How do you have a team that's a 3 seed and they fail to sell out the first playoff game??? I'll tell you how: because almost everyone in the Atlanta area is a transplant and hardly anyone gives a shit about the Hawks.

I am DYING to get to a playoff game at the Q this year.

I recently saw on Slickdeals that you can get a playoff ticket to a second round Hawks' home game for $10.

Same thing when I lived in San Diego. Some places are just commuter towns.

Fucking awesome... Just had a friend from back home (Cleveland) call me here in NC and ask if I saw the Lebron billboard. Was pretty cool to tell him that I pledged money to that shit over a year ago! Congrats to the whole freakin' RCF site...

Glen, just a suggestion, in addition to the t-shirts ideas with the billboard... You should make replica flags/banners of the billboard to sell on the ILTHY site. I'd definitely buy one of those to represent down here in the south!

I drove past the bar early in the day and saw the banner halfway up, then came back and saw it fully installed. Kind of funny how seeing it instilled a sense of pride! Before the game, I had to stop by at Nick's for one beer before hitting the game. Met Glen too quickly before jetting off.

After we left, it was just after game began, and my friend talked a scalper down to a pair of tix for $50. Dude was in town from Windsor and felt like getting inside the Q one way or another.

One moment of awesome followed by another.

Here is Maureen Kyle's response to my e-mail about the banner being taken down...

I was out of town this weekend, but my inbox and phone was flooded with messages. I think Eric Mansfield was following up over the weekend. I'll get an update when I'm back at the station tomorrow. I feel for Glen and all the Cavs fans! I know how badly hundreds - even thousands - wanted this message to get to LeBron.

Glen and I received this message from Councilman Brian Cummins:
I assume from this post – see below, that the issue has been worked out?

Please confirm.

LeBron Billboard Is UP (see post #87)

The Banner has been approved by the city, and it is up.

A big photo essay from Glen:

Thanks to all of RCF for helping to make this happen. The outpouring of ideas and support over the last 16 hours was incredible.

Thanks for all of your commitment and enthusiasm for the team and city/region!

Regards,

Brian.

It was nice to hear a response from him.

Looks like we're getting some new members. I'm sure they'll leave as soon as they roam into EAYOR. :chuckles:

The banner received provisional/temporary permission to go up as scheduled on Saturday. Glen and/or WUJU filed paperwork today at City Hall to extend things appropriately. Depending on how things go, they might need assistance from Cummins. I'm sure Glen will be on top of it and let us know. Thanks for writing to Cummins!

I absolutely love how great this thing turned out. Everybody involved deserves great props for the effort and work put forth!

I'm not one to be critical and this certainly isn't meant to be, but in hindsight, there are 2 things I wish were slighlty different.

The first is, I wish there was some kind of message in it that showed the support and desire that we have for winning now, this year, today. Like maybe adding "wins here" after the plays here and the "i" in wins could have been the trophy.

The other is picky, but when I paused the TV to show my son it during the Aldridge TNT segment (he was kind of blocking the first two figures), my son asked me why Rondo was in it. And I have to admit the very first time I seen it, I thought the same thing for a milli-second.

All in all, it is GREAT though and I just hope it ends up doing it's true job, keeping LBJ here...

Are you kidding? They are politicians. The ability to contribute to such a forum with anonimity will probably make them regular contributers. :chuckles:
