Cleveland Browns 2021 Regular Season: RIP

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Talked to my buddy from Minnesota who is a big Vikings fan and he had the following thoughts on the game this Sunday.

1. he doesn’t think the Vikings play a game as good as on Sunday against the Seahawks
2. Danielle hunter is their best defensive player by far besides maybe Harrison smith but that the defense sometimes doesn’t show up
3. The secondary has struggled in coverage and their run D is pretty bad
4. Their offensive line isn’t good but has played better than their talent so far this year
5. Their outside linebackers are not good at all

Really bizarre how many people are so mad at LeBron for maturing and rooting for his hometown team. Especially considering that the Browns were the worst franchise in all of professional sports from 1999-2018. When LeBron came of age we didn’t even have a damn team so it’s understandable he liked the Cowboys. I liked a bunch of non-Cleveland teams when I was young. Kids are front runners. I even took some of those fandoms into young adulthood. And yes, I still root for Lebron and the Lakers as well as the Cavs. Lots of Cavs fans do.

I think "hometown team" isn't the main motiviation here. It's nice when Lebron roots for Ohio teams, but that's not what motivates him. Lebron has a history of picking the favorite. He wants to root for winners. It's cool that he considers the Browns to be winners, sure, but for me, he's just another LA voice watching occasionally from far away.

Could always ask a Vikings fan on this board about the Vikings...just saying...

I'd personally love your take on the state of the Vikes. Would you be open to joining the RCF Flamin' Hot Takes Mailbag this week?

No one is mad at Lebron. He’s proven quite clearly that he’ll root for the best teams or whatever team plays for the town he currently plays for. And that’s fine. But let’s not pretend he matured started rooting for his hometown team.

In closing, f you go root for Buffalo :bleh:

HUGE fan.

At some point during Baker's rookie year LeBron switched to the Browns. He did create a 2010 Nike commercial where he joins the Browns.

It always seemed to me that he supports NE Ohio when he feels like NE Ohio is worth his attention, and the Browns were "beneath him" until they got a decent QB.

I feel like, early on in his career, he hated Cleveland. His home was Akron, and he viewed Cleveland, the big city, with contempt not unlike the way some Clevelanders might view NYC with contempt.

I also feel like that changed at some point. I feel like he realized the national view of northeast Ohio and came around to viewing all of NEO as his home.

Nailed it. Some say he's a frontrunner and that's a fair argument. The reality is that he's a brand and realizes when he is "rooting" for a good product, he has more eyes on his fandom, regardless of how genuine it is.

More eyes on him = more money in Bron's pocket.

I get part of this - full disclosure, I first starting following sports around 1966 in NJ and was a Mets - Giants fan (football for the latter - not old enough for the NY baseball Giants LOL). Moved to NEO in 1971, switched allegiances around 1975-76 (you can guess why). Up to that point Walt Frazier was my favorite player (ironically, he became a Cavalier later).

I'd give LeBron a pass - except I still remember him going to a Cleveland Indians playoff game against the miserable stinking hated NY Yankees and their obnoxious owner who had the best team money could buy, and raising his Yankees cap to his "hometown" fans in OUR ballpark. He wasn't a kid then but a paid pro athlete representing our city and NEO.

I went to the new Yankee stadium a week ago Saturday (guess who has the largest monument in their stadium - yep, George Steinbrenner, what a dick) wearing my 1980's Indians shirt with the Chief on it and watching our team beat the shit out of those Yankees. Hearing those spoiled fans give a series of Bronx cheers because they were getting pounded was sweeter music than a Vienna String Concerto. There weren't many Tribe fans at the game but we were enjoying every minute of it. True Cleveland fans are the best -- we may not win as often, but we're real sports fans and not front running bandwagon bitches.

Yeah yeah, I know he cheered for the Tribe in 2016, he's cheering for the Browns now, I should be more forgiving. In fact, it's just not right to hold a grudge against the man, it's immature, it's stupid, I need to move on and we need to embrace LeBron as a true blue NEO fan who bleeds Cleveland sports like all of us do.

NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
