It’s not some big conspiracy against Higgins.

He doesn’t want to/can’t capably play special teams.

And while he has produced when called upon, specifically in 2018 and 2020, three different coaches have deemed him not good enough to be a top 3 WR on their team.

If you’re not good enough to crack the top 3, but also can’t/won’t give any value on special teams, that’s pretty much it.

Not trading Hunt unless we are desperate for cap space.

Considering how much of an impact Hunt has on the offense when healthy, and pretty much everyone from Baker to Chubb and Stefanski have noted it, I don’t think there’s any reason to move on from Hunt..

Johnson’s case will be interesting but I think he’s worth the 2nd round tender without a doubt… He provides tremendous depth at an important position, considering this teams offensive profile, especially when we’ve seen the injuries that have popped up with Chubb and Hunt the last two seasons.. On top of that, he’s a valuable special teams contributor so he’s able to contribute in other ways as a RB3 even if he’s not getting touches.. Long term, he also provides insurance next year when Hunt is a FA and $$$ may make it tight to fit a pay raise for Hunt..

I understand health plays into Conklin, but considering he’s played at a high level and the importance of offensive line to this teams, it doesn’t make any sense to cut him.. I know Tretter was a popular cut candidate but he’d fall into the same line of reasoning and only has one more year left on his deal.. They’re better off keeping both and focusing on other areas that need improvement and can be trimmed $$$ then offensive line.. Plus with either Tretter or Conklin, there’s not a ready made replacement for either currently on the roster…

Agreed on both, especially Tretter. I was always a bit perplexed seeing so many suggest he is likely to be cut. From what I could tell he is still playing at a high level, and I would have to imagine he is a leader in the locker room. It doesn't appear we are going to be hurting for cap space this off-season like we thought a few months ago, no need to let Tretter go in my opinion.

I surely do not envision cuts to the offensive line either. Our depth on the outside wasn't up to par and seemingly all season one of the tackles was out each week.

This off-season will be massive for Hudson, as he could nab RT to start next year. Certainly think we take another OL come time of the draft on day 2 or 3 and try to add a versatile veteran who fits our play style in FA on a reasonable one or two year patch deal. Uncertain if Wills is a franchise LT, doesn't finish a lot of plays. Even simple stuff like backside run plays he's not able to cut off the DE if lined on his inside shoulder.

Who knows how much the ankle hampered his play? A lot of guys take a good stride forward in year two at that spot, but still have to keep in mind this was a RT at Alabama now attempting to play LT at the world's highest stage against great DEs and OLBs each Sunday.

Cutting Tretter would just create more gaps that need plugged.

The concern with him is never his head. As leader of Player's Union it would seem he's likely loved by teammates and always is well spoken in interviews.

Ofc it's health, the guy plays reasonably come kickoff, but is often not able to practice through the weeks as his knees have been consistently listed on the weekly injury rundowns.

The team will have far more insight into whether his outlook as a reliable center for 17(+) weeks is feasible than our off-season fan conjuncture

Also on board with keeping Tretter. He’s been tremendous, and is probably underpaid if anything.

In a year where they’re expecting cap to go up to nearly 210, his cap savings aren’t worth that extra cap. You wouldn’t get an equal player.

How many comp picks does that net us? :chuckle:
