Cleveland Guardians Offseason Discussion 2021-22

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The current pact ends Dec 1st.

The question is what stops and what doesn't?

Does the R5 get delayed until a new agreement is reached. Do the 40-man rosters get frozened? Are FAs that do not sign by Dec 1st get put in limbo?

It's difficult to believe that league and team officials wouldn't at least be briefed on where negotiations stand, along with some sense of likely outcomes.

If not, everybody is flying blind...not a good thing for billion dollar franchises for which one wrong guess could cripple a team for years.

FWIW....

I wasn't expressing surprise that Jose has remained so anonymous.

I was merely stating a fact.

There are people in this world that do not measure quality of life by the size and length of their contracts...or the amount of their personal publicity. There are also agents that care more for the best interests of their clients than the size of their percentages.

And there are a few individuals that just want to play baseball.
Don’t worry, I would never confuse your opinions with facts.

The recreational dodgeball club I founded in high school was named the Wild Stallions. Therefore, anyone who dares to use that name in any capacity is obligated to pay me a monthly sum of my choosing directly to my Venmo account. It's only fair.

Pure money-grab, but hopefully doesn't delay me getting a Guardians hat.
Who in their right mind is going to confuse a pro baseball team and a roller derby club? The answer is no one. Both can have the same name, and the baseball club owes no royalties to them. And they don't own the name or likeness of the guardians either; if anyone does, it's the city who owns the statues that both have taken their name from- especially the roller derby team, who clearly use the statues in their own logo. Did they get clearance from the city to attempt a claim on the name and likeness? Chime in, resident insider lawyers, on if their case appears to have much merit, because my cursory law knowledge based upon years of Peoples Court, Judge Judy and Allie McBeal tell me this is a bunch of hooey.

These roller-people are such losers.

The derby team -- which was established in 2013 -- has not had a season since 2019.
“Major League Baseball would never let someone name their lacrosse team the ‘Chicago Cubs’ if the team was in Chicago, or their soccer team the ‘New York Yankees’ if that team was in New York – nor should they,” Christopher Pardo, the derby team’s lead attorney, said in a statement.

I think both teams should be able to keep their names and be able to market for their respective sports using the "Guardians" name.

So the Cleveland Guardians are being sued by the local roller derby team... Well - seems like this should be a fairly straightforward trademark/copyright issue.. If the Derby teams has all their ducks in a row they might have a case..

Really surprised this wasn't resolved before now..

Edit. I see the baseball team filled for the actual trademark 4 days before the roller derby team did, however the roller derby team formally registered the name Cleveland Guardians in 2017 with the Ohio secretary of state and has been selling team merchandise since 2014, the lawsuit said.

Should be interesting..

Maybe insiders can fill us in on more, but it looks like:

- Baseball team was first to file trademark on the name
- Baseball team offered roller derby $ to go away, RD team countered but BT didn't accept
- RD team doesn't have much legal leg to stand on in this lawsuit from what I can gather

@BimboColesHair will I still be able to buy my hat soon?
