Can’t get something for guys who were worth nothing.

And that’s not to say that they’re destined to fail, they could very well turn into quality ball players. I’m just saying that none of them ever had any actual value that could have netted us a return.

Again, assuming teams can operate in a vacuum and get something for every player on their roster is not a healthy way to expect a front office to work. That is wildly unrealistic.

Moss and Nelson held no value. They weren’t getting you anything when their types can be found on the scrap pile for free.

Takes 2 to tango to “get something” for literally everyone.

A guy who can’t stay healthy and a ho-hum lefty isn’t worth multiple posts in here lamenting that they are gone.

Teams are taking fliers on them with their remaining options, but they’ll still be 40 man fodder if a better option comes along.

Real life isn't OOTP... you can almost always find a player swap in OOTP for players that have potential and options which both Moss and Nelson do... Real life you aren't going to get much of anything for either guy outside of maybe cash and the reason why you would get cash for them, is because the team had better records than another team that wants to claim them so to get them, they have to give up that peanut butter and jelly sandwich so they have priority to them.

Looking at the current roster, I think a trade is likely on the horizon, at least one FA signing of a C, if not two for an OF... then we will bring in veteran relief arms with a decent chance of a major league deal with a lefty reliever...

But that's speculation on my part

C is tricky because we already have Hedges who has worked with the staff and Lavastida and maybe Naylor on the horizon. Especially with the signing of Leon it seems like the team is leaning in the direction of going with the continuity for the time being and hoping the answer can come from within. Maybe my read is wrong but short term deals make the least sense for catchers who have never worked with the team before and I think that's what we'd be looking at anyway. As for options I'd consider it'd basically be Yan Gomes or bringing back Perez for cheap. There isn't much else out there that would make any sense outside of a trade, really just a terrible free agent class for catchers.

RH outfield remains a desperate need on the other hand with some decent FA options out there. If we don't add at least one, I don't see looking at that as anything but a failure.

If you want continuity at catcher, its not Gomes. He would have only caught Bieber in 2018 (20 games max). A lot has changed since then. Dont even think we gave a reliever from then. That's why I said when Perez was released, if $6.5 million ($7 less buyout) was worth losing him for a few mill overpay when our payroll sits at $50 mill? If he is worth $3-$4 mill is the $2-$3 mill worth our staff needing to get use to new catcher. And Perez and Gomes sit as 2nd and 3rd best FA catchers per mlbrumors ... not a lot of depth there.

Honestly Lavastida I don't think will be near ready in 22... his bat should be fine but he lacks innings at catcher, so we have to get a catcher to pair with Hedges. Plus at the current moment, Hedges is a free agent after the season (but could take an extension)

If I was controlling the team and no trade options where available, Gomes or Perez will be signed then we would keep Hedges... one of them would get a multi year deal 2-3 years... to be the backup to Lavastida and there until Naylor is MLB ready...

Continuity is not a preference. Someone who can help navigate what will be an incredibly young staff, bullpen included, through 162 games is.

Hedges can take care of about half, maybe less with his concussion troubles. They need someone to take care of the other 80-100 games. That person is not on the team yet.

You think Perez could be brought back?

I was hoping we could have kept Nelson and Moss...
I'm glad we were able to keep Garza.

Don't mistake this for disappointment, but I was surprised they allowed Perez to get claimed. I'm not one that thought a LHRP was ever a need for 22, but I also thought he was a legitimate option. Seems like there might be some underlying circumstances there. This being said, I do have confidence that Gose and Hentges will be very good out of the pen. Allen might find a home there as well.

Bottom line. None of these losses are worth "raising any stink" over.

No, Perez is not worth that and it was time to move on from him. The biggest factor being his inability to stay on the field IMO. There's no good reason to have Roberto Perez and Austin Hedges both on the roster regardless.

I can't help but wonder how the FO/Tito and Co feel about Lavastida. He sure has been impressive. If they don't sign/trade for a C and he has a good ST, does he have a shot to make the opening day roster? I'm not expecting it by any means, but I'm curious.

Gomes would be a significant improvement for this team, but I believe signing him is a long shot due to the lack of good starting C on the market. I say make a solid attempt to bring Contreras and Happ over in a trade.

Always a dream, never really any smoke there. Fit was there but the interest from either party wasn't.

2/26.5 and an option for a 3rd year. Little more than expected for him, on top of the option.

Mets are busy today, set the mid-tier market for IFs and OFs in one day.

Think Cleveland is in on McNeil or Dom Smith?

Count me as relieved the Guardians aren't signing Canha to a contract like that.

I was going to suggest that Alex Dickerson might be a good pickup, but the history of his lower back issues continued into 21 and that's not good.

We need something to happen and soon. FFS Gson is talking about trading Bieber now. lol
