Cleveland Guardians Offseason Discussion 2021-22

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
In person or on net?

Guys, the issue with our young team is they are locked out of Az and are on their own. For someone Kluber, no big deal as he knows what to do. Someone like Plesac or McK could use some additional refinement. Even Palacios could use time in BP in OF reading balls off bats. Wasnt it Civale that shortened his arm action last off season. What is Plesac working on?

Doubt this CBA gets nailed out soon. Even if done for opening day, our youngsters are hurt more by not having our staff eyes on them in person in Jan.
In person training in AZ

Actually for once, it's not as big of a gap as it used to be. Hard to say Berry and Altman did a bad job at all, problem is inexperienced head coaches with them while Antonetti has a hall of famer head coach... and a front office that other teams take his assistants. I mean the Shapiro tree of front office is kind of vast after all...

Also worth noting the Guardians FO is the best in the city in the hardest league to consistently win in and compete with major markets.

Being in the AL Central is probably the best anyone can ask for though. Post 2000, there have been 3 (out of 21) seasons where the AL Central has a positive run differential, one of them being the shortened season and another one of them being a +3 year.

I didn't see Bimbo Cole's name in the press release but I'm beginning to have the sneaking suspicion that your real name isn't actually Bimbo Coles.....

Is his real name Antonetti? Lol

Actually if I would guess, he would be one of the mid tier staff that deals with scouting and development...

Sure, but to win a World Series they still have to go through teams with payrolls tha absolutely dwarf their own, even in years they spend more. That doesn't really happen in capped leagues.

Don't stop now-- They should elevate several more personnel to the title of Assistant GM.

Then the other franchises won't know who to hire away.

I feel like former Indians/Guardians personal run a fourth of the league now lol Maybe we shouldn't promote on public paper our best guys now but set it up so our worst are so they take all of them and have them run opposing teams haha

@Huber. I think you support this plan don't you?

Of course, it sure beats being Baltimore or Tampa though. Making the playoffs is an accomplishment with their payroll, which is also why the Rays organization is maybe the most impressive in all major sports (certainly in MLB) for what they are able to do with the money they put into it.

I look at as a numbers game from there. You make the playoffs and some of those times you'll get past the first round, some of those times you get past the first round you'll get past the second round, and the third round is the World Series. Still the chance of winning 3 rounds in a row if you have a 45%, 40% and 40% chance is 7.2% which is pretty bad but they're in a situation where that may be about the best they can do... Make the ALDS 30% of the time, win the WS from there 7.2%, that gives you a 2.2% chance of winning the championship. Pretty bad but the league average is 1/30 (3.3%).

As a small market team, all you have in your arsenal is to be competitive and pray...
