Okay the point of this thread is to do hot takes about the Indians/Guardians, but also you are not allowed to tell any other poster is wrong in this thread! Everyone can say what they want as long as it keeps other posters and political references out of their posts. Don't quote anyone's post if you disagree since this is a place you are supposed to be able to say your opinion without backlash! @The Human Q-Tip @Wham with the Right Hand let's just try this and hopefully it doesn't get out of hand!

I will start with the first hot take!

Daniel Johnson and HRam will not be an Indian/Guardian in 22...Amed will not be a Guardian either...

Kris Bryant needs to be a Guardian in 22... Bryan Reynolds will also be a Guardian in 22!

Our OF would be Bryant in RF, Reynolds in LF and Straw in CF with Mercado and Zimmer as the bench... We lost Jones, Mejia, Morris, Johnson and Rocchio in the Reynolds trade...

JRam, Bieber, Civale, Reynolds, Reyes will all get extensions...

Perez will get a restructure/resign of a contract, making him a Guardian to the 24 season... Hedges is kept til then as well. When Lavastida and Naylor both are our starting catchers...

When it comes to INF in 22... JRam is at 3B, Arias is at SS, Gimenez at 2B, Bradley at 1B with Miller as the utility... Clement is the floater up and down!

(gets on soapbox)

This organization has had way too many pussies on the team for the better part of 30 years. Not enough in your face players. Not enough emotion. Its one of the biggest reasons we have never been able to actually win it all.

Cody Morris just threw four scoreless innings in his AAA debut striking out eight. He was throwing 96-98 with nasty breaking stuff. I don't think he's going anywhere. Not saying you're wrong, just offering an alternative theory of the case. Did I just violate the thread policy?

How are the Guards going to come up with the money to extend the five best players on the team and also sign Kris Bryant? How much would it take to sign a 29-year-old slugger like Bryant in free agency?

Not saying you're wrong, just asking.

Anthony Rendon signed a 7 yr $245m ($35m AAV) deal after the 2019 season. Kris Bryant is represented by Scott Boras. Boras's goal will be to eclipse the total dollar amount or AAV that Rendon received.

Not to say Boras will succeed, but Bryant will surely not be signing in Cleveland.

Kind of goes against the thread idea, but I'll just explain my logic then!!!

Well my logic behind the move... Reynolds isn't going anywhere unless we overpay and the Pirates lack SP more than anything else... So to get him, we would need to give up two SPs that can be in the pros in 22, plus we would create 40 man roster space, so we wouldn't lose any players in the Rule 5 as well with this type of move... I don't want to lose Morris either, but putting straw, Reynolds, JRam, Bryant, Reyes as your 1-5 makes it a scary top 5...

Now when it comes to Bryant, it's a pipedream, but we have no 100% proven guys/All-stars at the current moment for LF/RF/1B and Bryant on paper can be an All-Star at all those positions... Now his cost.... I'd be very surprised if he wasnt at least a 5/6 year at 30+ Million a season. It would balloon our cost, but if something like this doesn't stop saying Dolan is cheap!

Guardians would have a new look, and an owner who spends money!!!

Hmmm.

This could be fun. Basically a way too early 2022 prediction thread.

1) We will lose real value in the Rule Five, not a Ka'ai Tom.

2) Jose and one other will be extended.

3) Berto will remain. So will Amed.

4) The opening day rotation will be Biebs-Civale-Plesac-Quantrill-TMac.

5) The Columbus rotation will be the best in the minors.

6) Tito will be back.

7) The FO, not believing in mirages..esp after Logan Allen...will trade from its excess of pitching and MIF prospects for a major bat that is already in arby. But it will also get a pitcher in return.

8) The Guardians will use at least ten SPs.

9) Fans will complain about every move the FO makes, or doesn't make, and insist that multiple prospects in Columbus are better than what we have in Cleveland.

10) In the end, the FO will be proven right the vast majority of the time.

Tito comes back for his final year in 2022 and Sandy Alomar Jr. becomes the new manager.

A swell of protest from the fans leads to an agreement from MLB that the Guardians can still be called the Tribe.

The Guardians will increase payroll next season. (Well, it can't go the other way!)
But I don't think it will be almost doubled next year, like some of you do. I also don't think JRam will get an extension by next year.

The Indians/Guardians closely align with the Tampa Bay model. They are the defending AL Champs, and are heading for the playoffs again. Their payroll is in the mid-$60 million. The Indians have never had a player who's contract was out of whack with the rest of the team.

If they can add a real productive corner OF next season we should be pretty good. Infield questions should be filled internally.

Tito retires in January

The Marketing department quietly issues better mascot/imagery to go with new Guardians naming.

HRam does not return. Nor does Mercado.

Cal Quantrill will be our #3 starter next year. Plesac will be our #4.

There will be at least one major trade for a 'big bat'. Likely someone noone expects....ie. not Reynolds or Marte type.

There will be no major(starting player) FA signings.

JRam and Bieber are signed to extensions.

I'd like to clarify my stance, because I think your statement includes myself. I mentioned this in one of my posts, but it wasn't the initial one pertaining to this conversation. My stance is that they are capable of increasing the payroll to $80-90M. I also mentioned in a later post that if they can make the moves that they feel are needed then the payroll may only be between $60-70M. My point is that there was a reason payroll was lowered to the point it is now and that they will not waste a single year of this pitching staff and JRam. That, and the stars appear to be aligned with a new minority owner, new name, new park lease, and new renovations. Thing is, when healthy I think this team is pretty damn good now even though there are a couple of glaring holes. One of those holes may have already been filled with the Buffalo, and no I don't believe for one second that he'll continue to hit at the level he is now, but he is and will be a vast improvement in the lineup.

If they decide to sign a bat there are some that won't be incredibly expensive. Guys like Aguilar, Cron, or Renfroe would help this team and not break the bank by any means.

I agree with Benway, Voit could be a target. I also agree with Alabuckeye that an addition that none of us seen coming will probably happen. If I had to guess the groundwork for that deal is already in place knowing MC/CA.

Hell, at the end of the season we may all be saying that they don't need to make any moves. Baseball is funny sometimes.

No minority owner yet. Might not be one. If not, I would expect payroll to increase only moderately, if that.

Ownership clearly said they lost tens of millions last year and that it will take years to recover financially. I'm not expecting a big payroll hike just because they changed the name.

My personnel prediction is Berto will be let go - he makes too much money and his age plus injury history the last two years will be the reasons, along with his anemic bat. Hedges will take over as the starter with Wilson Ramos as the backup. Hedges is four years younger than Berto and doesn't hit much, either, but he is hitting .270 with runners in scoring position.
