Collecting Obsessions

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I still have my Strat-O-Matic sets from the 70's and 80's. Haven't touched 'em in decades.

What are your favorite watches?
I started off with a Speedy. I have actually had two over the course of year. Then went to a two-tone DateJust from the 80's. Then I got the Tudor Peligos. After years of studying/wearing various watches, and as bad as it might sound, I just like the feeling of wearing a Rolex. But is the truth, and I sold all my other watches to consolidate on what I prefer to wear.

I currently have two watches. A Rolex GMT 16750 w/ matte dial (1982 birth year), and a 2019 Rolex Daytona "panda". I don't think I'll ever trade or sell those two watches. I do prefer vintage timepieces over modern ones. My next, and probably final watch will be an all gold, vintage Day-Date 1803.

Very nice!

Rolex has a well deserved reputation for quality.

There is a lot of custom work, and factory dials, for Datejusts. Diamond dials on the right color to match the bracelet look amazing.

I am going to get one this coming year. I am going to play around with some of the stone dials.

Found this at a flea market.

A brass snuff box depicting Carl XIV Johan, King of Sweden and Norway.

Enlisted in the French Army as a private at the age of 16, and died King of two nations.

Holy crap is that nice! How much did they ask for it?

I just found my old box of sports cards in my parent's attic. I have no idea how to start going through these and what/who to look for let alone how to sell them to maximize any value they have.

I do have a Joe Montana and Cal Ripken rookie card in there.

Most of the value depends on condition.
Be careful not to ding the corners. And you don't want to handle the raw cards too much.
Spend a couple dollars to buy a pack of sleeves and plastic holders and carefully place anything of value in those until you can get them evaluated.

If you are looking to liquidate, make sure you get someone you can trust. You can also cross check a couple of your cards to recent sales on eBay, for example, to make sure you are getting some value. A dealer is probably going to want to undercut you 50%.

Hopefully you find some more gems!

@Sebastian I did end up pulling the trigger on a big boy watch.... for my older brother.

Ended up ordering a yellow Breitling Avenger automatic today on Chrono24. It's a little big for my taste but perfect for him. It's a hybrid Christmas/40th birthday gift.

In 6 months when I get my MBA it'll be my turn, I'm trying to hold the carrot out in front of me.

Just wanted to say thanks for the education earlier in the thread.

Oh man! Those Avengers are wonderful!

He better love it!

I am so glad that you have got into the obsession! Hunting for rare models and deals helps one pass the time.

Are you planning on an Avenger as well for your MBA present?

Or are you still looking at the Omega or Tudor?
