saw a few legit passes and some willingness to move the ball side to side in the offense as well as feed the post.

PROGRESS
I really feel like the coaching staff and/or players must be stressing passing with him much more these past few weeks. He has definitely been trying to get others involved more recently. Still a long way to go, but a little progress is better than no progress.

Could that Sexton play at the end been a response to the self pass off the backboard dunk by
Drummond earlier in the game?

I doubt it. To me it was just a young guy who hasn't been on the winning side a whole lot wanting to have a little silly fun when the game was well in hand. It was stupid, but he's only a couple weeks past his 21st birthday. From his reaction afterward I think he thought it was McKinney right behind him but sort of freaked when he realized it was a Piston. Watching the slo-mo replay I'm actually not sure it was a travel.

I agree. And some of the passes he's made recently in traffic are really pretty good.

Forget about it. It was garbage time. Here's what was important about Sexton's game last night - he's getting better at recognizing when he has a shot and when he needs to dish it off.

"What’s exciting is when he doesn’t make the reads right, and you see his recognition that he didn’t. The excitement and the thirst he has to get better, it’s really fun to coach him." - Beilein on Sexton, 1/27/20

And Sexton knows he better get it right or he'll hear about it.

"My teammates are going to let me know when I missed them here or there. So the next time down I can make the right play and not try to force it. If I tried to force it the first time I’ll know what’s open after that." - Sexton, 1/27/20

Good to hear his teammates are letting him know when he forces up a shot when he had a man open.

Great quote and I like that Sexton is still trying to learn and improve his game. Not many players out there will admit their faults or have egos. Sexton is a hard working guy and still at 21 yrs old, his work ethic iswhat makes his ceiling go really high. Let’s see how he does for the rest of the season.

Really encouraged by his recent play. It's just decision making. I think his teammates are working with him rather than against him too and the team as a whole is playing better Love is more involved and moving the ball really helps Cedi.

They have expanded the offense. I think Beilein is taking it step by step and that is hard for the vets.

Glad the work with Sexton on recognition of passing opportunities seems to be working. Beilein said 3 weeks ago that it just wasn't showing up in games yet.

Feeling more confident in the coaching staff

In the Pistons game, the dish to McKinnie was one of the best plays I've seen Sexton make in his short NBA career. I keep thinking about it. Also, the comments made about how Sexton celebrates making the right basketball move -- this is the progress we need to see.

Dropped this in S34, but figured it could be expanded on in his own thread.

Since Clarkson was traded Sexton is putting up this stat line:

22.4 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 2.6 APG, 1 SPG on 47.3/42.9/88.7 shooting splits.

That scoring line and shooting efficiency in a soon to be 20 game sample size is nothing to sneeze at. TS% of 55.93%, eFG% of 51.71%.

Number of passes per game has gone from 34.4 to 38, with his potential assist figures going from 4.6 to 6.0. That reflects with what we are watching too, and a noticeable effort in creating more for others off of his drives and isos.

Been one of the best isolation scorers in the league this year, putting up 1.02 points per possession, which ties him with Luka and Bradley Beal and slightly ahead of Trae Young. Puts him in the 80th percentile for the entire league.

Only trails K Love as our most efficient spot up shooter at a 61.2 eFG% and is in the 70th percentile for points per possession when spotting up.

If this 21 year old kid either figures out how to cut/slash off ball or play make at a higher level, we have an absolute player on offense.

Kid is currently putting up a scoring season that will only have been seen 12 times the last decade should he continue his level of play (21 or younger, 19+ PPG on 45%+ shooting from the floor) and he is doing it still raw as hell as a 20/21 year old.

Having a coaching staff that can develop either more off ball skills or more play making skills is key for him, and so far it looks like Beilein and company took him all the way down to the foundation and are building him up as the season progresses. Shame his rookie year was a throwaway season getting coached by a bunch of dudes with both feet out the door, and how a lot of fans seemingly forget that.

Still not sure what his ceiling is, but damn certain he's going to attain it.

Second year in a row the guy has lobbied for a spot in that meaningless exhibition game.

So Sexton was the reason we made that made come back down the stretch, BUT sometimes I just wonder about this guy.

It's like his energy (and he has a TON) short circuits his brain a lot of the time he's on the floor.

That was Porter's fault, how are you going to leave your man to guard Siakam when Tristan already had him...Porter leaving his man forced Love rotate to Lowry while Sexton had guard two people at the same time.
