Only in Cleveland would we tell someone who is incredibly hungry to improve his basketball skills to find another hobby. Imagine if Jim Buss would have said that to Kobe in 98.

I do really wonder what is going on in that locker room. I heard Larry talking on the Locked on Cavs Podcast. he said a bunch of stuff that is worth a listen. He was really complimentary of Darius and KPJ and he was joking around about Sexton. Didn't have much love for him, and said "all he cares about is basketball." There was also that quote from the locker room that someone said "Collin is probably sitting on his couch staring into the air until basketball starts again."

He may be having a hard time warming up to people because he is so monomaniacal about basketball. Sounds good as fans, but maybe that isn't the easiest person to work with? I think he is pretty odd and probably has a hard time relating to people who don't care as much. For one thing we saw a noticeable uptick in effort once JB was made coach. Collins effort really never wavered, but he was put in better positions on the floor after JB was installed.

I will say, Kobe got more out of himself than most guys that had his talents. I personally think Mcgrady was more talented, but Kobe put in the work. Maybe we see something similar with Sexton. He isn't the most talented, but if he works like this his entire career, he will be better than more talented guys that coast.

I personally love Collin and could see how his demeanor rubs people the wrong way. However, I am being truthful, our vets for the past two season (including Larry & Kevin) are very complacent & have a loser mentality. Let the kid work. Id rather have 12 Collins than 6 Collins & 6 Larrys.

I know Collin has said he wants to do stuff like team dinners, but I think his craft prevents him from even doing stuff like that (cant remember where I heard it). Just let him be, but I hope everyone embraces him. The time off may be good for him to at least socialize (albeit remotely) with sports broadcasters & teammates. I like him doing interviews, hopefully he hooks up the PS4 and enjoys the time. Then when its time, get back at it.

That's all really interesting. I'm not sure if it makes him more difficult to work with -- just makes him more difficult to like. And to use your example, Kobe wasn't always the most well-liked player by his teammates either.

But in Collin's defense, there have been all sorts of things written about how he is really best suited to be a 6th man rather than a starter, that he can't be a true PG for a team, etc.. There is some truth in that -- he is not yet a finished product in terms of his position. So he actually has a very valid reason to work ridiculously hard to try to get better. It's just that 99% of guys wouldn't be that driven, and would accept their fate. He won't, and he just uses it as motivation. I find that impossible not to like. And though that personal quality is most discussed in terms of his self-improvement, it actually is apparent in how he plays down the stretch in pressure situations. He absolutely thrives on that. I don't think I've ever seen a time when the moment is too big for him. He might not succeed, and might not make the right play, but he is kind of the ultimate gamer.

I really think he's going to turn the corner at some point and become a perennial All-Star. And when that happens, the only reason he'll stand out from everyone else on the team will be because he's the leader, and not just one of the guys.

He's absolutely in my top 5 favorite Cavs of all time.

"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do: I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers Hornsby.

Known as someone who was difficult to get along with, Rogers was not well-liked by his fellow players. He never smoked, drank, or went to the movies.

His lifetime batting average of .358 is only exceeded by Ty Cobb's career mark of .367. He won seven batting titles in total, a feat tied or exceeded by only five players (Cobb (11 or 12, depending on the source), Tony Gwynn (8), Honus Wagner (8), Rod Carew (7), and Stan Musial (7)).

be played 22 seasons and was Inducted into the baseball hall of fame.

....yeah from where I’m sitting, Nance’s jokes about Sexton staring into thin air waiting for basketball is the best compliment he could ever give him. it’s gonna pay off with an absolutely massive contract and likely accolades far greater than Nance could ever aspire to. and that’s not a jab at Nance either. Collin has a real passion for something.

That's one of the issues I have with fans when it comes to Sexton. Cleveland takes pride being a blue-collar town yet won't embrace a player like Sexton.Sexton does everything you're supposed to do as a professional but fans treat him like he's Voldemort or something.

Championship teams need those blue-collar type players to win a title.....imo..Tristan was that player for the Cavs in 2016.

While,I agree Sexton needs to get better on defense and assists.I think he can be that heart and soul on the team when he does reach his peak..

It makes you wonder, if JB and Beilein clashed when it came to Sexton. Sexton looked more comfortable playing under JB....imo

Beilein wanted to ram his "system" down everyone's throat, regardless of how well it suited the roster. JB seems more willing to take the guys he has, and figure out what works for them. It's not that he's super-inventive or anything. It's just that he's not rigid.

This is,why many people looked at that hire as questionable. A coach need to be flexible in the NBA.

I agree I really like Sexton. I think he will be fine with assists in the next couple of years. He is learning to pass off his gravity instead of passing guys open. He will never be the latter, but there are plenty of guys like Harden and Steph who really aren't guys that create something from nothing, but instead make the right read as the defense adjusts. That is where his assists will come from and that is plenty good for as good a penetrator as he is.

If I wanted the "entire package" that would include good defense and the ability to win over his teammates and have them all be on the same side and for him to be a leader. Channing was implying last year as late as January that Sexton did not deserve the most touches on the team. I am hard pressed to say who else should get the shots as he was more efficient than Love. If Sexton can't win guys over with his personality, I hope he is beginning to win them with his results.

I don't understand, what's Channing's beef with Sexton. Instead of defending his boy,he should call and tell him to stop being a fucking kid. How can he sit there shit on Sexton but give Love a pass for running two coaches out of town.

Not only, does Love need to stop being a kid,he needs to stop being injured so much.

And,who the hell was going to score last season outside of Sexton and Clarkson. It sure wasn't going to be Tristan and Cedi.

I think Sexton will become a better shooter than Westbrook....

He is a better shooter than Westbrook now. They are tied for 2P%, but Collin bests him in every other shooting category including TS%. Westbrook has never had as good a shooting year as Collin did just this year.

I am surprised because I saw articles saying Westbrook should get rookie of the year votes the year Derrick Rose won. Collins numbers were better across the board in terms of scoring. Westbrook even back then more than doubled Collin's assists and had 2 more rebounds.
