I'll believe it when I see it. But they're very thin depth wise, they have awful bigs, their playmakers dribble the air out of the ball and they pass to get assists, not to create good offensive motion. Durant is obviously still an MVP level player probably, and that makes them competitive automatically...but they have some glaring flaws that I doubt buyout guys will solve.
You said it. Durant is like LeBron in that he can cover up a lot of team weaknesses. They’ll figure it out and be a top 2 team in the East just because of him.

The bigger elephant in the room is that they seem to be a better team without Kyrie. It’s just a redundant fit having Kyrie and Harden on the floor at the same time.

Not sure, but A: I still really good about Garland who is not even 82 games into his NBA career and B: who would you even definitely say would have been a better pick than Garland IF you presume that the Cavs being totally sold on Colin after his rookie year would have resulted in them not taking a PG in 2019.

Just remember there was alot of noise from the organization that they thought Sexton was a sixth man. I'm not completely sure they picked Garland as a backcourt mate with Sexton. The guys I liked at the time of the 2019 draft to pair with Sexton were Coby White and Reddish. As of now, I wouldn't say any are better or worse than Garland.

The other part of it, is if they believed in Sexton maybe they identify those traits that they seem to use to draft Okoro earlier and apply those to the 2019 draft. Again I have no clue who those traits would have translated to in the 2019 draft.

Collin was asked on the postgame show what he did this offseason to improve.

He said he got up at 4:30 a.m. (!!!) for his first workout of the day. Generally had 3 workouts each day. Also said he took up meditation to help stay on an even keel, and liked it so much he has kept it up during the season. Says it really helps for things like free throws, etc..

Sexton's effort and focus are freakish. I'm guessing the Cavs have given up trying to get him to think of something other than basketball. :chuckle:

I think the thing that Darius points out here that could make Collin at his ceiling a franchise player is that he has started to make his teammate play better by being on the court. His first year he showed he could score, but not always efficiently. Last year he became an efficient scorer if the offense runs through him. This year, he's started to see the court more make his teammates better by being able to play off the ball AND create baskets for his teammates. Don't get me wrong, he still needs to improve on this part of his game, but he doesn't look at all like the guy a lot of us thought might be a 6th man. That's because his scoring threat off the ball and improved vision with it make you want him on the court with your best players.

He seemed like he as playing his own game apart from his teammates before. Now, even when he only ha 3-4 assists, he is in the game, making cuts, playing off the ball, giving it up and getting it back. He is playing with the team and not just doing it all himself. His off the ball play has been crucial in getting his teammates involved.

And wow. Maybe he wasn't passing the ball because no one could stop him? When they sold out on him he got rid of the ball at the right time and got those assists. Some of those over the top passes to Allen were amazing.

I always said about him that he would not have the pass you open ability that Some guys even Darius has a bit. He is a drive and kick player. It's his downhill gravity that draws a double or even more guys and he can use that to set guys up. He is not always totally on time and target with his passes. He did an especially good job of that tonight and his guys knocked them down. Drummond even set some screens and got the ball on the roll!

Did you guy see where he bullied Kyrie with his body and then scraped him off with a Drummond screen on the right wing and then just pulled up and shot the 3? That was cold blooded and I knew the Cavs would win right there. His confidence is off the charts.

He's a student of the game. The way he has started weaving round the defense looks chaotic at times, but he is getting to his spots and no one can stop him

Loved the no look pass in the air that Sexton made to Drummond - that did not exist in his rookie year. His defense has improved as he worked on his strength this offseason. His ability to improve because of his willingness to watch film and improve his game. Game to game...Year to year he has improved.

I feel like when Sexton shoots, it is gonna go in.

"He’s getting wherever he wants. Getting teammates involved. I mean, a lot of people don’t do that. When you come off a 42-point game, you expect them to probably go for another 40-ball. He’s still getting his buckets, but he’s making everybody else better around him. That’s what I love about Bull right now. He’s just locked in. He wants to win. We all want to win. We’re all behind him.”

To emphasize Garland's point, Sexton came off a 42-point game and had 9 assists his next game. I'm pretty sure that's a career high.

Sexton went from people questioning his shooting to being one of the most reliable shooters on the team. And,the best part he got more room to grow in that department.

He had a complete game tonight. He showed off his passing, scoring and defense. Just last game this dude looked like he had no idea how to playmake or pass the ball, and a game later he shows off totally different playmaking skills. I don't get this alien.
Seems to me like he's a young guy looking at film and trying to improve game to game. We can't forget that the Cavs are trying to integrate some new pieces even if it seems like they are instantly effective. Hopefully we can get completely healthy and get a nice stretch of games with the whole crew available.
