Sexton was 26-4-6-2 tonight but he needs to work on his free throws though......Even,though he was 3-5 tonight.

It’s just crazy what he is starting to do with that efficiency. I know we won’t ever see Love, but imagin if we had the Love of old playing with Sexton. It would open up so much space, and I am sure would add 1-2 assists a game. I just think he could be a 28+ and 6 assist guy with better shooting around him.

Pretty delightful interview. And helpful timing given how bleak it's been lately.

J.J. really is a great podcast host, too.

Also, a fun takeaway that J.J. voted for Sexton as an all-star starter.

This was interesting. His work ethic and how far he goes above and beyond is truly special. I don't think the Cavs will find guys that will go as far as he does.

The two stories that stood out to me is that he got an altitude mask because he knew the U17 USA training camp was going to be in Colorado springs so he worked out in Georgia with it to be prepared for the altitude.

The other story was that he taken it upon himself to watch tape with Okoro. He said he wakes Okoro up on the plane and he makes Okoro watch tape with him. He also said he has know Okoro since 4th or 6th grade.

Collin seems like a very good guy and I'd hate to see him traded. If we find that stud SF who can get buckets Sexland can and will work.

That's the problem though, that's not a good shot for him to be taking at the third-highest volume in the league.

He's shooting sub-50% and you don't draw many fouls on floaters. He's good at the shot relative to the rest of the league, but that doesn't make it a good shot for him to take as often as he does.

He's an incredibly skilled shotmaker, but he's not making the most of his current abilities due to his shot selection.

Yes, but he's starting to get the hang of lobbing to Allen or Nance for dunks instead of shooting the floater. It's not there yet but it's coming. He's also learning how to hit the brakes and get fouled from behind. When you look at shooting percentages you also have to factor in how many assists did the player get on that shot, how many fouls did he draw, and how many times his shot was blocked or stripped or he got called for a charge.

The Cavs are not a team that can just whip the ball around the perimeter until somebody has a wide open 3. Their offense is based on dribble penetration followed by a layup, floater, lob to a big, or kickout to the corner. Sexton is doing a good job on the floaters but once he gets better at identifying when to lob or kick out rather than shoot it himself it will be even more effective.

He also needs to reduce the turnovers because sometimes he gets stripped when dribbling into traffic.

In December through January Sexton averaged between 17.8 and 18.0 shots per game - remarkably consistent. In March he was up to 20.3 shots per game, possibly due to Nance being out. In the two April games he's back to taking 16.0 shots per game and hitting 56.3%. That's probably due to Love and Prince getting back.

I think that as players like Okoro and Wade gain confidence and start shooting the ball more and with Love and Prince returning Sexton will take fewer shots but his percentage may increase if he doesn't have to work as hard. Right now he's in an awful shooting slump from deep as he's made only 2 of his last 21 attempts on 3's. That was right after hitting 6-for-9 against Toronto.

If the Cavs are ever able to get Allen, Nance, Love, Wade, Okoro, Prince, Garland, and Sexton suited up and healthy at the same time I don't expect Sexton to be taking 18 shots a game. It will probably be more like 14-15 and his shooting percentage will improve, IMO.
