Will Hartenstein opt in? The way he has been playing makes me think he could easily get double the amount he’s due next season

Why can't he get 5M? He has literally only helped the team so far, and seems better than McGee

Sexton is an on-court team cancer because of his play and decisions..or lack there of. The team as a whole and individual players function and perform like night and day when Sexton is healthy...in a highly negative way.

He's the only one that's been playing good yet tou call him an on-court cancer...How about our bench score like they did yesterday.

Sexton is light years better than Lou Williams was in his first three years. I don't understand, why anyone even would even say this bullshit. If,anyone that should be on the bench it should be Garland. He's too passive, too injured prone, and when you compare his and Sexton's best games it's not even close...Sexton got him beat by a long mile but people want to bench the player that teams are double teaming and putting pressure every night...

I don't understand this logic at all.

One more thing, before we start demoting players can we get players that can score and shoot consistently on the bench...This bench cost us game after game but we want our best player to be surrounded by players that can't shoot or score consistently.

The comparison isn't 1:1 Sexton for Lou based on the first 3 years of their career. It's Sexton compared to 6th man of the year Lou. So your lack of understanding might be based off how you interpreted my comparison.

I don't get why people don't understand coming off the bench isn't a demotion if you're still getting starter minutes. It's strategically staggering players in-order to get the most out of the team. Garland might have had a bad night, but he was still fairly productive as a passer. The team needs someone to be able to consistently run the offense. Similarly, there are situations where having two small point guards on the floor at the same time can hurt us. If we're going to put all of our faith in Sexton to run the offense as opposed to being a primary scorer, we'd need a player like Luka who has size and is able to run the offense. Otherwise we're at a disadvantage...

Cavs fans are the only fans in the league that think benching a guy that score 20 points in his sleep is a good idea...

And you missed the entire point of his post.

I'm not even advocating for his benching because I don't think we have anybody good enough to fill his shoes as a 2 alongside Garland.

However, he's proposing that minutes remain the same. If that's the case, why does it matter if he starts or not? It makes sense to stagger Garland and Sexton. The current issue is that we don't have any decent options to play alongside each of them when they're not together.

Again, Lou Williams at his peak. Manu Ginobli. Jason Terry. Jamal Crawford at his peak... They all came off the bench in order to allow for a more balanced starting lineup (whether it be for defense or offense). All have been great scorers off the bench. There are more examples too. Thinking coming off the bench if a player gets starter minutes is obtuse.

Sexton is averaging 35.8 mpg this season. Not feasible to keep his minutes that high and have him come off the bench.

If the team is at a good enough place, Sexton shouldn't have to average that many minutes anyway. And if scoring is needed, he can always get way more burn. The point is not having him and Sexton on the floor at the same time as much as we do now, but also not starting off at a defensive disadvantage at times. Depending on the type of player we draft, it could be Garland off the bench. Having two 6'1 guards starting isn't a long term option. If Sexton can improve as playmaker and go up to 6 or 7 APG with low turnovers like Garland has been doing lately, 100% he should be the starter of the two.

Garland has a way better feel as a PG than Collin has/will. It just isn't who Collin is. He's been our most ball dominant player going on 3 years running and his big scoring and gaudy shooting %'s seem to be made in a vacuum outside of winning the game. At some point we have to ask why Collin just plays his game, gets 30 on like 50% shooting but the team as a whole plays like crap, especially when the two games prior, without his 30 points the Cavs played good basketball by and large. And this has been the case on a few other games as well. Not enough to totally make a decision, but enough to make you question the max/near max extension the Cavs have to be considering.

Anywhoo.. this stuff should probably be in the Young Bull thread.

And that's the rub. Why can Sexton plop into any game, get 25+ shooting ~50% from the floor yet it seemingly has zero effect on winning, yet, w/o his production vs other teams the Cavs seem to make more winning plays and find themselves with W's or at least within striking distance?

I don't think he's a cancer, his teammates do seem to like him (the entire team seems to pull for each other, which is rare for an NBA team w/a bad record), but I do think his style of play makes for an easier to defend basketball team.

I disagree last night once Sexton was on the bench boom the lead was taken away and never got it back. The whole team besides Sexton sucked I mean Garland was atrocious. This would’ve been a 40 point blowout without Sexton. I don’t mind the loss we need a top 5 pick.

In wins, Sexton averages 28.9/4.6/3.2 on 52.4/45.7/80.6. In losses, Sexton averages 21.7/3.9/2.6 on 45.6/30.0/82.6. If he would have been able to play against a Charlotte team without Ball and Hayward, he would have looked as good as the rest of the team did that night.
