If Sexton wants to get paid the type of paycheck SGA and Trae got he is going to have to play for RFA offer sheets.
Cavs are not going to give him that much while they are still unsure about Garland let alone a Garland Sexton backcourt or if Sexton should even be a starter on a good team.
I think they offer him 6th man contract and he just takes it knowing he has to do more prove more and be more unlike so many who get paid those bigger amounts before they actually earn it.
They should offer starter contract imo even if they plan to bring him off the bench this season, because he will destroy second units and get a lot of offers next summer if they dont.

I'd sign Collin for 26M for 4 or even 5. I don't think he'd take it. 28 or 30 seems like too much. I think he should be paid as a 2nd option.

I think it is fine take it to RFA, and I think he is exactly the type of player you do that with. He is really good, but is a square peg and might not be tradeable at a high number even if he can score among the best.

I don't know. Once Austin Car starts saying it was Garland's team live, on TV, during the games, it's pretty obvious. Also, efficient scorers on the other teams do face similar scrutiny when they're taking the most FGAs and have ridiculously high usage on 20-win teams three years running. People start looking at their advanced numbers and asking whether they're net positive before handing them the types of contracts their seeking. Not for nothing, but none of the GMs who handed LaVine, Booker, Wiggins, or Fox their contracts still have their jobs.
If Sexton was a straight out chucker I highly doubt anything said by Austin Carr was going to change that. Look there are a few wings I probably would've taken at the time over Sexton (Bridges, even an unhealthy MPJ if they knew if was going to be a long rebuild). I probably would've taken Reddish over Garland after the Hawks swooped in for Hunter too. (Yes I was one of the few Reddish fans even before his disastrous season at Duke). I did like Okoro but legitimately thought he was taller than 6'-4".

With that said the Cavs have to deal with the here and now. The Celtics are kicking themselves in the ass for giving away Rozier with nobody on their current team to replace his scoring. Sexton is still an efficient scorer, a valuable NBA skill, even though he doesn't check all the boxes. Any good businessman would preserve the asset if they can keep it at a good price. I just don't think Sexton has much trade value and alot of it goes back to his rookie scale contract almost being exhausted at this point.

The Celtics immediately replaced Rozier's scoring with Kemba, traded a first to get off the contract they gave him, and then signed Schroder for less than $6M to replace that production. What the Celtics missed was Rozier's ability to play passable defense and his ability to run an offense better than Smart. Scoring is a skill, but it's only one skill, and if it's the only skill the player has, you better be real careful what you're paying for it.

Again more projection here. How do you know this?

It's funny how efficient scorers on other teams don't go thru nearly the same type of scrutiny Collin faces here by the media and fans. It's like the old Browns QB debates. Fans of one player cheering for the other guy to fail. As Cavs fans we should be hoping they all pan out and improve even if it's for a future trade. I swear some of y'all want to deal Sexton for a ham sammich or just let him walk for nothing when that would clearly hurt the team in the long run.
You just described a majority of this board’s posts. I’ll never understand the mindset that wants to see Collin fail, or Garland bust, or Okoro bust, or JBB get fired, or Koby get sacked, or … on and on. Seems like some combination of (a) posters unreasonably believing that every player on the roster needs to be perfect and (b) posters who are more interested in being proven right than in having their team win.

2nd options get max contracts

The C's didn't have any reliable scoring outside Brown/Tatum in the games I watched. Kemba was injured and now Schroeder is a band aid. Apparently Sexton has been working on the pick n roll in practices. I hope he proves everybody wrong. No he's not a PG but he's still a very efficient scorer that by all accounts loves playing for the Cavs. I guess we'll see how much by tomorrow. It's not his fault the org has failed to address the most important position in today's NBA (wing) but fans keep throwing darts at the kid as if he's the sole reason they've lost games when losing Lebron for nothing was a much bigger reason.

Hey, I'm sure you and Steph are just two bros hanging out together on off days honing your sarcasm together. I bet that's just the shit.

The only real question I have is whether Ayesha gets jealous when you two cuddle after one of your arrogant sarcasm sessions.

I mean i dont know Steph Curry personally, but I have a friend named Steph, and I love to eat Curry chicken, so thats close right?

That’s too much IMO. 5 years/$100M or 4 years/$80M is where I’d draw the line

That is Josh Allen money, he is worth more than Josh Allen. I am not a huge Sexton fan, but 25 mill a year so 4/100 or maybe 4/110 is my guess

For the most part, I don’t think people are rooting against any of these guys. Obviously, there will always be a few, but I believe most people on the board are just advocating for the direction they believe will lead to the most success for the franchise.

When you feel like someone is rooting against Garland, Sexton, Okoro, Altman, JB, or any other member of the organization, it probably just means they don’t believe that person’s ability to help the franchise win games.

Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe a lot of people on this board are rooting against our own players. At the very least, I can tell you that I’m not. If you ever think I’m rooting against somebody, trust me, I’m ecstatic when the Cavs play well.

Looks more like Kershaw money to me

So Mikal Bridges signed and extension for 4 years 90 million.
Good contract for the Suns.
Don't think Sexton should get more than Bridges.
Mikal worth a lot more than that he got the shaft in the name of contending.
But players taking discounts is not that bad of a play if winning a ring is in reach.
I don't see how Sexton feels that way on this team at all. He might buy in on
the future now that Mobley is here and take less than he could eventually deserve
as he enters his prime towards the end of the contract and worry about getting paid on his 3rd deal instead.
But he could just as easily not buy in at all with no proof etched in stone as to what this team can become.
I would not be shocked if they want him to stay more than people on here realize since it is so hard to get players who buy in and take a discount.
