Collin was averaging 20 pts per game this year untill the last 2 games and if his shoulder and knee did not sideline him .he would have been ok i do not understand the dislike on this board about a player who is a upright person who gives his all when playing does not cause any outside promblem . you should be proud of him instead of allways trying to tear him down.
Agreed. Some people seem to think that Sexton is a me-first scorer, who doesn’t pass the ball or play well with others. Prior to this year, there were times he played ‘hero ball,’ but he was one of our few scorers and that was one of the only ways for us to stay competitive in games. He took over and won the Brooklyn game almost single-handedly last year. There’s no way we win that game without him.

The hate towards Sexton is kinda hard to understand since he’s such a hard-working, quiet kid, who doesn’t try to bring attention upon himself.

DG and Rubio have to do so much dribbling to get a shot at the end of the game. They have to work so much harder than Sexton.

He never seems tired. His efficiency tends to climb as the game goes on and the other team can't keep up with him.

It's a shame. He was having a hard time integrating, but it was coming and I liked the growth on his interior passing.

He has a lot of what they could use now. Cold blooded killer stuff, easy transition buckets etc

Literally *no one* has even hinted at hating Collin the person, character or "attitude". The "hate" comes from his style/basketball IQ not being conducive to winning basketball games over any length of time. Collin as your #1 option is a lottery team, and constricting to your financial situation. Collin in a reduced role, like Cedi, might net some great results.

The bolded part is false though. ( he averaged 20 thru 5 games, after that he fell below, finished his season with 16 ppg).

He's a fighter, but he can't start next to Garland. He could start next to a guy like Lonzo Ball (though that backcourt would not be a winner in NBA). But he's a 6th man on most teams.

I don’t at all hate him. I was advocating for him before the season, but more in a let’s up his trade value way. I had no idea we’d be competitive yet.

I just had a view that he was going to want to get paid, like all guys off rookie deal, and his numbers were better than his impact on winning, so it’s a dangerous contract.

Now with the injury, if there is some middle ground to be had, I’d love to keep him. You can pay a guy like him $12-15 million, but he’s a bit of a ballstopper. He’s an ideal sixth man who is left in during crunch time if he’s having a game. If he’s not, go with someone else.

I don’t think I’ve seen any dislike of him as a kid, he seems great. As a player, he’s hit or miss.

We definitely miss having him part of the rotation.

I think we should want to split Sexton and Garland up for as many minutes as possible and have a guard or two that compliment each one of them. I don't think it matters as much if they both start or not, it's how the coaching staff staggers their minutes to minimize their defensive flaws.

I think Rubio is a good 3rd guard to compliment them if he can keep up his good 3pt shooting. I just still don't know if he wants to be here long term or it makes sense with his age to rely on him long term.

$12-15 million is a joke, right? Some kind of fantasy dream proposal? You can't be serious that you think that's his value. Ridiculous.

I went through this crap with the Allen contract. Looks like it's going to happen again with Sexton.

But Allen is a true starting center in this league. Sexton is not, he's a 6th man guard on a successful team. 20-25 is an overpay.

Before Allen signed his deal people here were saying he was only worth ~$16 mil/year and some even thought that was too high.

Sexton is a proven commodity who can give you an average of 20 points per game. Those don't grow on trees.

I'd say the Cavs should just revisit the contract they already offered and apparently Sexton turned down, whatever that amount was. The Cavs already calculated his value to them and made the offer. Sexton will not be worth any less than that amount. He might accept it now after the injury, or he might prefer to test the market.

Name one 6'1 SG in NBA that makes 20+ mil per year.

Collin was avg 20pts a game untill he hurt his shoulder why do the people on this board worrying about what the cavs pay him. right now he makes less money than Garland Okoro Cedi Mobley Markham Rubio .

And that's one guy in the entire league and he's just flat out better on both ends on the floor. I don't think it helps Sexton's case.
He also makes significantly more that @20M per. And I think he is a good model for the development of Sexton's game.

Sexton is able to score on all 3 levels but his effective shots in very specific areas. I pointed this out during his slump, he had gone from dictating where his shots where going to be taken to other dictating where his open shots were coming from.

I actually think some of this is a bigger problem with JBB and the coaching staff. It's not just about getting guys open shots but getting them open shots in places they are effective at scoring at. I think too often guys are taking shots from areas they aren't actually effective shooting from. When I look at shot charts that seems to back up that they aren't positioning players where they should be in sets. Sexton might have a better understanding than JBB where he is actually effective shooting from.

I said this a few week ago,JB doesnt try to get anyone out of a slump. He doesn't draw play to get players easy baskets. He have Collin and Okoro camping near the three-point line like they're Klay Thompson.

If,you look at all the games Okoro did well last season it was because JB drew up plays to give him easy baskets like having him cut to basket. Somehow,JB is against doing for his players. Collin is an inside-out player, when he sees his baskets going in from the paint he gets going in the mid-range and three-point line but JB just let players shoot jumpshots despite being in a slump. It makes no fucking sense at all.

Don't you think it had more to do with him being the only starter to have a major role change versus him. He was the secondary ball-handler for the last two years to having his minutes and ball-handling cut this season. I mean, anyone would struggle in that condition but I thought it would take him after the All-Star game to adjust to his new role.

I hate when people bring this up because this roster had a bunch of non-shooters and G-leaguers the last three seasons and want to point the finger at Collin for the losing. This season was the first time Collin had decent shooters around him. Even, then Lauri was bricking them like he was building the biggest manson on this planet.
