He's a fighter, but he can't start next to Garland. He could start next to a guy like Lonzo Ball (though that backcourt would not be a winner in NBA)
you're not watching the current version of lonzo ball. heck, even last year's version of lonzo ball is playing like an all star.

I think the Cavs should put the same offer on the table for Sexton next summer they had out there this past summer. This is assuming it is clear he has fully recovered from his knee injury.

Yes, if his father had not been such a colossal ass in the that period around his draft and his first year Lonzo would be one of the most liked players in the league. Humble, worked on his game, unselfish, outstanding defensively and a much improved shooter.

They just may. Reducing their offer certainly has the potential of creating some bad blood with Sexron & his agent.

Before Allen signed his deal people here were saying he was only worth ~$16 mil/year and some even thought that was too high.

Sexton is a proven commodity who can give you an average of 20 points per game. Those don't grow on trees.

I'd say the Cavs should just revisit the contract they already offered and apparently Sexton turned down, whatever that amount was. The Cavs already calculated his value to them and made the offer. Sexton will not be worth any less than that amount. He might accept it now after the injury, or he might prefer to test the market.
Revisiting that amount would be a sign of good faith. After this injury you aren’t sure you are getting the same guy.

No, it wouldn't. It would be kind of a dick move by the Cavs and send a message that they don't value Collin.

Then don't make an offer and match whatever deal he signs.
but the team needs to make a fair one first to send the message the team wants him back. the agent can then counter with whatever other teams are offering. if the cavs don't come up with an offer first, it's basically saying "we don't want our best scorer back", and i don't think you want that message.

the team needs collin back on a reasonable deal, you don't start that process by sending the wrong message.

The Cavs should make it absolutely clear that if Sexton's future is in Cleveland, it means a role off the bench.

It would be a disaster to give him any type of a "Top Dog" contract. That would just set up a weird power dynamic for the coming years, when Mobley should be taking his place as the face of the franchise.

He will not get anything near a max contract. I would let him go through the process of a rfa and see what’s out there for him. Match it or not The guy would be a big plus on this team or any team

Well, they didn't offer this type of contract last summer (nor do I think his side was asking for one), so it's kind of pointless to suggest they'd do it next summer. Something in the neighborhood of what JA signed for seems reasonable.

I'd say $20 mil per year is well within the category "I'm high on the pecking order and entitled to a certain number of shots and touches".

You don't really see it with Allen since he's a rim runner type, but Sexton... whole another ballgame.

The projections are that the salary cap will be jumping to $171 mil by 2025. Next season alone it is expected to jump from $109 mil to $119 mil plus the lux tax level is typically about $23 mil over the cap.

Point being the league is making money and I could really care less about Gilbert's pocketbook. I hope they pay all the talent on this team esp now that they have a franchise guy in Mobley.
