What are his PG skills like?
I don't see him as an elite scorer, more of a 3rd option down the track so his ability to run a team is more important, especially if Lebron is gone.

at least at this point he is known as a score-first PG who is not a natural distributor. Turns the ball over a lot.

Sexton came out of left field, correct? Makes you wonder how much information floating around is complete BS. Only the handful of guys in that war room really know what’s up.
I’m gonna be equally obsessed next year, but there’s no way I will believe anything I read from insiders or journalists.

Staff had reports that LBJ himself thought highly of Sexton. My biggest worry is that I hope the Cavs didn't let LBJ be their scout, but this was not out of left field. Really, this is a case of the website as a whole liking eight players in this draft more and many members of a website wishing a trade went down. Does that sound like the admin failing to be a cheerleader for the website? I'm certainly not here for a popularity contest. That said, Sexton was considered by some as the best PG in this draft because he defends at a much higher level than Young.

Maybe, but he seems like a huge question mark at this point. If Gilbert's plan is to put together a team that convinced LeBron to stay this move just does not make any sense to me.

Please tell me, oh great one, who you would have taken at #8 if you were GM.

One thing you can't coach is speed. This kid is a blur and I do see a lot of Oladipo in his game. It would be nice to see someone get in Curry's face and irritate him right out of his comfort zone.

Like I said in the draft thread there are going to be a whole lot of people changing their mind about Collin Sexton if he's on the squad come November...Cavs have been soft and lazy on Def far too long... This dude will push the pace and get in your face ...he isn't out there shaking hands and slapping asses with the other team...and he attacks the rim as well as anyone

You were on him from the get go. Hope you were right!

The kid might be a bust like the Alaskan Assassin, or he might be the next Mark Price. (Who still is my favorite Cav.) Point is: We don't know. Price was noted to be a slow white kid who "might" be a decent back up...….. We see how he turned out.
Not to mention that the very next year, we drafted a point guard because we weren't sold on Price. Kevin Johnson was pretty good and Price outplayed him. We shall see what happens. This could be the perfect team for him. Ty Lue has to get over his veteran bias to get this kid playing time.

I would have traded it at the deadline for Kemba Walker instead of punting on the season when Golden State was vulnerable and LeBron was playing at the highest level of his career. They valued a short point guard that can't shoot, pass or finish more than they valued giving LeBron adequate help to legitimately compete for a championship.

Young turned it over 5.2 times per game. Sexton turned it over 2.8 times per game. He needs to work on his game, but I don't think he turned it over too much for a freshman PG.

So is he a PG or SG? He has the career ending "G" tweener status in the title.

At least Sexton isn’t physically limited. Kids with sextons raw ability can turn into stars or they can bust.

I personally think we’ll be happy with this pick.

We don't know how close a trade possibly got. They may have tried to trade it but couldn't. Just because they came out and said they intend to keep it doesn't mean they didn't try and trade. It does take at least two teams to make a trade.

Player comparisons have been Bledsoe, Donovan Mitchell, and Westbrook ... Those were Jay Williams comparisons and he and Chauncey Billups both compared him to Bledsoe... He needs to improve his jump shot but he attacks the rim and is a high-energy athletic player that plays both ends of the floor and won't back down from anybody. His nickname is the young bull for the way he competes on the floor and his work his way from a relative unknown just a few years ago to one of the top players in high school and now a lottery pick
I'll admit that this pick caught me completely off guard, as I wanted them to do the best they could to keep lebron. I don't put too much stock in player comparisons, because these are the same people that said that waiters compared to Dwayne Wade lol.

Look at their assist to turnover ratios. Sexton 3.6 assists/2.8 turnovers = 1.28. Young 8.7/5.2 = 1.67

so adjusted for their assists and passing Sexton turns it over more.

Hopefully refines that jump shot opening up the lane for him to use his speed and strength. Definitely can respect that he won't back down and will work to get the best of himself.
