If Garland is still available at 5, you take him. He has star PG potential. Sexton can be a SG. That combo, although on the small side, would be a nightmare to defend.

It would also be a nightmare to see them defend.

Weren't you the one talking about how Sexton is physically limited on defense earlier in the year? I may be mistaken.

I mean he's 6'1" 1/2 and 183 lbs. There's only so many guys you can effectively guard in the league at that height/weight.

His arms aren't short at least, but that didn't make a whole lot of difference in his rookie year.

Sounds like he won't fall past 4

I guess it depends on what you want him to be. Kyle Lowry has been a great defender for years and he lacks the measurements of even a guy like Sexton. I don't think anyone should be expecting Sexton to become The Glove any time soon, though.

There is nothing physically that will hamper Sexton's defense, it's all mental at this point.

He won’t be there. Garland was recently spotted with LeBron James at the Klutch Sports pro day. In fact, I’d be very surprised if he works out for any teams, considering the promise he appears to have from the Lakers at #4. They apparently see him as a Steph Curry type of point guard.

I think the Cavs choice comes down to Culver or Reddish. Coby White could also be a consideration.

A little silly LeBrons lakers get to go before basically th worst team in the league, but we've been through all of that

It’s the new lottery system. Get used to it.

He sabotaged our nets pick which would have netted Doncic to prove a point and then picks before us.

FU Lebron

How did LeBron sabotage that pick? It was the Nets pick and LeBron got us to the Finals last year, as he did 4 years in a row. The guy came home to try to make things right with his hometown area. He brought us a championship, as he promised. LeBron has always been a frontrunner. I mean he grew up rooting for the Bulls, Cowboys, & Yankees. C’mon, he is what he is. I hold no ill will towards him.

He pouted because Dan wouldn't trade the Nets pick. He blew 2 games against the Nets that were winnable b/c he wanted the pick traded. That moved us from where the kings were at 3rd to 8.

Good thing I like Sexton, but I would rather have Doncic.

Karmically that is not fair that Lebron hurt our pick and then lucked into #4.

The Nets have an excellent coach and they overachieved last year, just like they did this year. Let it go. I’m happy with Sexton, as I’d argue the majority of Cavs fans are as well.

If he can navigate the pick and roll better he will be really dangerous.

I'd like to see defensive progress
I believe Belein and JB can help or I should say they plan to do so or make it similar to how GS utilizes Curry.

I mean our previous staff was not really helping them to give good habits on defense. More confident in this staff.

Do not forget Collin’s sumo stance in summer league last year. Yes, during the season he often lost his man but he is not a lazy defender. His defense needs some tweak. Has tendency not to use peripheral vision when help or turns his head way too much or concentrates on ball. Collin has quickness and I believe his lateral quickness technique and off the ball awareness can be improved. Not saying he will be a great defender but a work in progress can be done.

Shot selection analysis, for all the top 50 scorers including him and Clarkson, I found on reddit. h/t LlewynJean, one of the most prolific Cavs posters there.

This is describing 90% of rookies. Shai coming in this year as a competent NBA defender is amazing. Who else did that? Courtney Lee? Kawhi? It's usually older multiyear college guys or guys drafted for D.

Mikal Bridges but he was a 3 year college player.
