How can we know what Garland's issues are when he's never faced serious competition on a basketball court?

He has defensive question marks and durability concerns. I'm certain that he is a top tier offensive player. I just hope that he will be as quick as before.

Who's the toughest defender he's faced in his life? Half playing devil's advocate here, but seriously, you can't know that a guy is going to be a top tier offensive player at the NBA level based on 1-on-0 and 1-on-1 workouts with trainers.

There is no tough defense in the NBA. That's not the modern NBA. His shiftiness, shooting ability and potential as a passer is enough for me to know that he will be a great offensive player. He is not a player that relies on finishing inside. He will need to improve there, but he does a lot of other things that will allow him to thrive on the perimeter. Sometimes I just know with players.

I will say that i'm quite concerned about his injuries. If he loses his shiftiness/quickness then this seriously lowers his ceiling. If he can't stay healthy, then it's another big problem.

In that article it said no rookie in 20 years has played 82 games. Hard to believe, but it just tells you how much durability comes into play. Who is available gets minutes, and Collin got big minutes earlier than he should have because Hill was hurt and it allowed him to figure the pro game out. Collin is doing rehab day and night since he was in college. That is amazing and similar to what Lebron came into the league doing. TT was naturally durable and didn't do any of that stuff, and he ended up breaking down the last 2 seasons at 28.

If you told me that in the future Collin was an Allstar and Garland wasn't and it was largely due to their difference in durability it would not be too surprising.

I found that hard to believe so I looked it up
SGA played all 82 games this year
Dillon Brooks did it last year
Didn’t bother check for more haha

Mikal Bridges played all 82 as well. I think he meant that Sexton was the first Cavs rookie to play all 82 games in 20 years. For what it's worth, the other rookie PGs who played all 82 games for the Cavs were Andre Miller, Terrell Brandon, and Ron Harper. Not bad company!

That makes sense. I knew that didn't sound right for no NBA rookie to do that for 20 years.

Harper is one of the 2 guys that scored more points than Collin as a Rookie.

I have still not gotten over that ridiculous trade. What were they thinking? CAVS are a franchise which has done everything basically wrong but still got themselves a ship because James was worried about his brand.

I like Colin and think he'll play well for us. Looks durable so far, that's huge.
I'm not a fan of guys who are out a lot with minor shit happening all the time. Hoping Garland isn't one of them.

Harper was not a pg until he had the knee injury, for the Cavs he was a good ball handling SG...i know semantics, lol

It's funny that Collin has been getting talked about in every other thread than his own. I guess that means he's polarizing and people don't know what to make of him. Everyone talking trash should know you're (most likely) wrong. Maybe you're spoiled because of Kyrie, but he wasn't everything right away, either.

The kid has (insert superlative) drive and that 'Mamba Mentality', we're lucky to have drafted him. There's so many people in this league who need to be baby sit - Colin is not one of those people. His increased shooting percentage, especially from deep, in his first year should alone be note of that. The kid has confidence in himself and his work ethic and knows he'll get to where he wants to be with experience (we're talking about someone who can't legally drink until Jan 4th 2020).

He pulled together some great games for us and probably cost us a couple draft pick percentages in the process last year, but as opposed to Kyrie and Dion I'm so much more excited for Collin and Darius. I'll be really upset if they don't gel because they are the perfect mix of fast and slow. It feels as if we split Andre Miller into his two separate parts (Edit: plus long range shooting) and made two players.

Knowing we'll be in the mix for another top-pick doesn't deter me at all from wanting to watching this team. Just please get rid of Nance and Tristan and Clarkson.

Kyrie was literally everything right away. I swear he only regressed lol.

Kyrie used to dribble into traps all the time as a rook. He was the most polished rookie I ever saw though I think. He is better now, but I thought he would be significantly better by now.

I am very much liking Off-Ball Sexton thus far. Hope we get to see more of it during the regular season.

He’s such a competitor and hard worker that I really trust him to make the two PG backcourt work. I thought he had a promising start last night and hopefully he improves upon it
