Just to echo those sentiments, anyone who is as devoted to getting better as Sexton has been in his first two years will eventually become a useful NBA player. Factor in Sexton's legitimate athletic gifts on top of his work ethic (natural speed/quickness, instinctive feel for when to push the pace, burgeoning power for his small stature, etc) and I, too, remain puzzled by the abundance of hate he gets on social media by Cavs fans. I'm not talking about part-time Cavs fans that don't know anything, but legit followers who are otherwise reasonable.
I understand the advanced metrics are still extremely unkind to Collin and, no doubt, there is still quite a bit of growth required, specifically when it comes to general court awareness (getting better), reading the defense and knowing when to pass or when to attack and obviously the defensive shortcomings.
But, the guy is putting up damn near 25 points a game extremely efficiently since Clarkson was traded. You can call them empty calories or brush it off as "someone has to score the points on this team" ... that doesn't explain his efficiency and improving shot selection. Criticism is certainly warranted for Collin at times. He gets overzealous offensively and has a tendency to want it too bad. Give me that over a guy who is comparatively "good" according to the advnaced metrics but is coasting most games.
I will also note that my FSO TV channel went out last night and I was forced to find the game online and it was with the Hawks commentators. They were stunned by Sexton's competitive fire and how seemingly far his game has come since they saw him last. That and TT's incredible game took up most of their Cavs' related thoughts in the second half. Sometimes we get too far in our own bunker and it can be hard to see the forest for the trees.
Collin is getting better. He will continue that trend because the guy works his ass off. He is going to be a good player. I'm confident. How good? I don't think he'll be All-NBA or the like but certainly good enough to be one part of a core to a good team.
And he will deserve it too, when finally some Cavs fans are forced to reassess their brutal takes on Collin.
