They just drafted Reddish and Hunter. No way.

A wing is not going to help solve their poor pg defense and lack of rim protection.
definitely not going to solve the Trae link but a quality 2 way player at the 2 guard next (Reddish is a 3) next to him makes more sense to me than using Reddish or Hunter there . Yes replacing him is the only answer for their weakest link defensively ut unless you think they are targetting Haliburton there are no efficient defensive pg's in the lottery without overpicking for a lower ceiling one.
They would be better off getting an upgrade to Huerter, and taking a back up pg who can actually play defense later in the draft. It's not like there isn't a few available later. I could see them targetting Ty Shon Alexander or Ashton Hagans at 52. They traded for Capela remember regarding rim protection.

Back to Sexton (and apologies if this has already been discussed), but how many wings (including SFs for shits and giggles) picked #8 or later averaged 20+ PPG in their sophomore seasons with at least 47% FG? Can anyone find those names for me? I feel like it has to be a small/prestigious list.

Also was just looking at his stats and, although I knew he was coming on late in the season, I think I was really sleeping on him... ~21ppg, 3 and 3 on 47/38/84 shooting splits?! We should keep this guy, whether Garland has to be traded or not.

Interesting list. Not everybody is great, but almost everybody. I did rookie or sophomore year instead of by 21 for context. If you do limit it to 21 or younger you have

Jordan
Lebron
Durant
Pistons Isaiah
John Drew
Derrick Rose
Dantley
Sexton
Magic

Um WTF those are nearly all MVP's. Dantley wasn't the greatest, but was a crazy efficient isolation scorer. Don't know Drew but he was a 2 time allstar.

It seems like Collins efficiency is really being underrated. Everyone will want to use TS% to disprove this I think.

John Drew was unfortunately a victim of the Bias tragedy.

That's an incredible list and kind of puts it all into perspective at how good a scorer he really is. Curious, what were the USG% of those guys compared to Sexton?

Oh I didn't know this history. He was legit addicted to cocaine and he got a comeback player award after rehab, but then slid back into it the next year. Tragic for him, but of course Bias.

It doesn't provide USG with that tool on basketball reference. I guess you would have to go look up each player. I did do it again and included Collin's TS% and didn't even control for position and a lot of other great big men show up on a shorter list.

Interesting to not that Collin is the worst in WS besides Zion who didn't plat a full season. It isn't by a little it is by a lot. like 4 WS.

Been thinking Collin might be a pretty special scorer since Nathan S posted those per 100 poss stats for him earlier in the year. He was up there with a lot of good players. Many of the dudes on these lists got to ~30ppg. I'd really prefer he got those assists and defense up, but I will take what I can get.

Saying his defense didn't improve is not true. He was historically bad and now he is just bad. He mad a bigger leap than from average to good, lol.
Oh come on. He was still horrible on defense. I saw no improvement. I was more impressed with Garland's defensive tool's potential than Colin and Garland don't have a bunch of defensive talent. His fans on this board are insufferable. Even his scoring was inflated due to the Cavs purposely feeding him.

Inflated scoring happens at reduced efficiency. Collin was more efficient than 5 time allstar Kevin Love. Usage lower than last year, ppg higher on better efficiency. That ain't a fluke.

Calling out defense isn't something anyone does to Trae or Luke. Why is it a sticking point with Collin? Very few positive sophomore defenders. Thybulle is this incredible outlier.

Can I say that maybe we should be talking more about Trae or Luka being bad defenders then? Because it is a problem that teams will have to overcome.

It's why I am leery of a Garland-Sexton backcourt kf the future, because you are banking on both figuring out defense long term and I dont think that's a smart bet

Yeah you can talk about 1st and 2nd year players being bad at D all you want. For most players who are offensively talented, the defense comes later if at all than 2nd year.

I think both don't hang around forever. IF Collin and Darius can mesh offensively, we can get value for one of them.

What measure are you using for this?

Love bested him in eFG% (.550 to .517) and TS% (.599 to .560)

Trae should have his defense called out, but he's still been on another planet than Sexton offensively. I definitely question how good a team can ever be with him being as bad defensively as he is (much like I do with Sexton), but Luka shouldn't be thrown into this conversation. He hasn't looked nearly as inept defensively; he's merely looked slightly below average instead of "detriment to the entire team".

Oops you are right. Collin shot better from 3, but Kevin had an edge on 2p% and Barely in ft%. I looked at fg% instead of 2p%. How is Collin's fg% higher than Loves? their 3pt% doesn't seem to differ enough to account for that

Oh also, Collin should get more calls. I just hate seeing a dude jump into people getting the calls when a guy who goes to the basket and gets hit is considered "one of the most blocked players". He gets roughed up routinely and knocked to the ground, no call. He was elite drawing fouls in college by actually taking it to the basket, not manipulating the refs on jump shots.

I've been watching basketball for a long time anytime a player gets hit near the basketball they usual get a foul call in their favor but somehow Sexton can get mauled in every game but doesn't get the same type of calls like others do..

I don't understand, why he doesn't get the same respect as players who goes to the basket like he does... I mean,Im not saying he should be like James Harden but he should atleast get more free attempts than he's gotten in his two year career.

Hopefully, he gets more free throw opportunities next season...

It’s because a higher percentage of Love’s FGA are from behind the arc.

So, while 37.4% from deep is a very efficient shot, it drags FG% down (which is why I don’t find FG% useful)

For example, in 17-18 Robert Covington shot just 41.3% from the floor, but that’s just because he was taking a ton of 3’s. His eFG% was still 53.4%.
