lol Are you actualy going to die on that hill that claims woe is me is what Sexton supporters in this regard are claiming while it is in reality exactly what the Curry,Harden,Trae Young crowd are doing when they pull up into a defender and "don't" get the call because they are used to the star treatment?
Right on smh
I'm claiming that acting like Sexton should be getting equal or similar FTA or have a similar FTr to those guys is not based in reality.

I'm claiming that when I watch the Cavs, I've never once thought, "man, I can't believe Sexton hasn't been at the line more."

There are many reasons why guys draw a proportionally different amount of FT outside of just their number of shots at the rim and flopping.

I do see it. I mean he gets roughed up at the rim. He's not a guy like Kyrie that falls to the ground because he is contorting away from contact. He falls when he gets hit, and he isn't getting that call often.

Doesn't mean he should get 10FTA a game. I do think a guy that drew more fouls in college, put enormous pressure on the rim, and finishes well should get a little more respect there when he gets knocked to the ground.

You can say it is not based in reality, but we all know calling fouls is subjective and some guys get the benefit of the whistle more than others. Being fair and "it is the way it is" are 2 different things.

Obviously there's a jump from college defenders to pro defenders, and I think that jump is why you're seeing a difference in his FTr.

Guys draw fouls because they put their defender at a positional disadvantage. That could be due to any number of factors as we've seen guys of all shapes and sizes draw fouls from Iverson to Shaq.

In college, I think Collin was able to overwhelm guys with his athleticism to get them out of position and draw fouls. In the pros, I don't think he stands out in that area, and he's not creative enough with his finishes to keep defenders off balance.

Just because there's contact, sometimes even a lot of contact doesn't mean it's a foul. I see Collin draw a lot of contact from opposing players but I never feel like it's because the defender is out of position.

EDIT: I think it's also important to note that I'm not saying the gap shouldn't be smaller. The initial post I responded to in this thread referred to the guys drawing fouls at a high rate as cheaters, and that Sexton wouldn't stoop to that.

I was listening to the "Wine and Gold podcast" with Chris Fedor and Hayden Grove.Chris had a column at cleveland.com and one of the questions presented to him was the Cavs not drafting Michael Porter Jr.

Do yall think the Cavs regret not drafting MPJ or happy about with the progression of Sexton....

Anyone who was paying attention at the time would acknowledge MPJ was a big risk. Hence why he dropped as far as he did. If we had a 2nd pick in the lotto it would be worth the risk. Unfortunately thats not something we could gamble on at the time.

Everyone agreed that MPJ would miss an entire year. That is tough to swallow on top of losing James. The Franchise needed something new to root for.

I was fine passing on him. It would have made sense to take him at 8, but I really think NY was the first team to really blow it not getting him. We didn't absolutely blow it because Collin is really good.

MPJ is somehow a worse passer than Collin too, and that will come up if he tapped to actually run the offense.

While I agree with you,I only brought the subject up because I've been seeing a couple of Cavs fans on Twitter saying we should have drafted MPJ after he had those good games last week.

While,MPJ is talented I've been reading he's been in the doghouse a couple of times this season.

Multiple people have reported his entitlement and abrasive attitude are part of the reason he slipped along with his medicals.

I know, the coach and the organization had a long talk with him about his comments about COVID-19 being population control....That was very dangerous of him to say that nonsense.

Fedor has some good stuff on Sexton in his column today:

[Sexton is a] bigger, more muscular third-year guard who still has a chip on his suddenly-massive shoulders after living in the weight room over the last six months.

Quoting a Cavs' source:

"We know more about him than the general public and the media so we probably overvalue him because of the intangibles and that stuff. But he’s poised for a monster third season. What more does he have to do? He was effecting winning in a positive way at the end there. He’s our hardest worker, cultural piece, engine. We’re all in on Collin Sexton. It’s fine if people don’t see it with him; they will."

Sexton is literally the only thing that makes me want to watch the Cavs this year. Love that guy.

Also, I think this will be the year when we actually see if he can improve significantly as a defender. I suspect the muscle mass will change his mental approach, and make him a more physical defender. That is the first step necessary for him to improve his defense.
