This is Sexton in high school. One of the reasons why I never really liked the Ball brothers as I did not feel they were dominant. You can tell Sexton loves the game and how he has improved year to year I really cannot wait to see this year on how he improves his game.

It's an hour long Chris Manning interviewed Cranjis McBasketball from BBasketball-Index.

I guess,bbasketball-index does a very deep dive into player's stats.

McBasketball observations

1.Sexton is a very good slasher.

2. Says,Sexton is a good outside shooter but a very poor volume shooter that needs to keeps defense honest.

3. Sexton has the foundation to take the next step but needs to learn to change speeds.

4. Sexton is at defending ball screens.

5. Sexton plays the passing lanes good.

One more thing,Cranjis McBasketball said his playmaking is bad but not awful. Says, his playmaking has improved though.

The thing Sexton needs to do is take more threes so he can keep the defense honest.

Also says Sexton has the tools on defense and offense but needs to work on IQ,technique and a few other things.

I would recommend listening to it though...Very informative...imo

I feel like the take away is everything we already know.
Sexton has the tools, but doesn't know how to operate them all.
I honestly feel like if Sexton would simply try making a habit of passing to the weak side of the offense even when the score is available just to get it in his head that it's there it would eventually help his overall game.

Once JB was in charge we saw more of that. He had some decent assist games at the end there. I am not delusional. He isn't going to develop into a pass first pg. He can definitely be a great drive and kick guy passing out of the double.

yeah, last 11 games or so he did open his eyes to the weakside more. sample size wasn't large enough. hope to see it improve this season.

I still think his best role is off the bench as a scorer.

I think Sexton will improve defensively and his playmaking ability. For whatever reason, alot of people have no expectations of him improving when he always improved some part of his game.

Cranjis, who was on the podcast this week said while Sexton does need to improve his defense, mostly his ball screen defense, he said that Sexton does some things well on defense like attacking the passing lanes...

At some, point there's need to be balance when it comes to him. You can't talk about his deficiencies all the time but ignore the good things he does on defense and offense.

the hurdle is two fold:
1. you need to know you have a problem to fix it.
2. court awareness and hoops IQ is learned not only by playing, but understanding how and when to sacrifice. Some guys never learn that (or learn it way to late).
You can't practice feel for the game like you can a 3 point shot or a free throw. Sexton has improved the mechanical deficiencies in his game, hopefully he can improve the cerebral one.

We can agree that his feel for the game was pretty terrible initially though and he has grown by leaps and bounds there? The vets said he had no feel for the game, but I think that has changed considerably since he would dribble himself under the basket or in from the 3pt line to take a contested 2.

I thought after the allstar break he was a playing more of team game and was getting his teammates involved much better. That was when I said, "Maybe we have something here"

Who could he pass the ball to he is the only one who can make a shot .he passed the ball and most of the time they would miss the shot or fumble the ball Away.if he was on another team they would be talking about how good he was .they badmouth Kyrie when he was here.. about his assists they just like to complain.

Well, he did stop taking as many mid-range shots. So that's a mental aspect of the game.

In one sense, Kyrie is a good comparison to how Sexton plays now. Both of those guys looked like they knew whether they were going to pass or iso/shoot as soon as they crossed halfcourt. In other words, rather than reading the defense and then deciding, they'd decide first.

I think Kyrie gradually got better at that, but still did it to some extent. Let's hope Sexton improves at that as well.
