I mean, taking more 3's v taking more mid range doesn't feel like being particularly cerebral in your play as much as you know 3 is worth more than 2.Well, he did stop taking as many mid-range shots. So that's a mental aspect of the game.
Irving may play a more selfish style of game than other NBA PG's, but he is an other worldly talent and knows how to play, and knew how to play at 19 coming into the NBA. Sexton is sort of a poor-mans Dennis Schroeder right now.In one sense, Kyrie is a good comparison to how Sexton plays now. Both of those guys looked like they knew whether they were going to pass or iso/shoot as soon as they crossed halfcourt. In other words, rather than reading the defense and then deciding, they'd decide first.
I think Kyrie gradually got better at that, but still did it to some extent. Let's hope Sexton improves at that as well.
Dennis Schroeder can only dream of sexton's offensive tools, so not a good comparisonIrving may play a more selfish style of game than other NBA PG's, but he is an other worldly talent and knows how to play, and knew how to play at 19 coming into the NBA. That some reason us that most rookies don't improve that much.. and then improve again.. Sexton, Nance, Love and Dante Exum are the only players on the team to have improved significantly over their first three seasons.. Drummond (who is very good) has not really gotten better from his first season.. McGee for whatever reason took a big step in year four, While Exum took a step back with the injury..I think Sexton will improve defensively and his playmaking ability. For whatever reason, alot of people have no expectations of him improving when he always improved some part of his game.
Cranjis, who was on the podcast this week said while Sexton does need to improve his defense, mostly his ball screen defense, he said that Sexton does some things well on defense like attacking the passing lanes...
At some, point there's need to be balance when it comes to him. You can't talk about his deficiencies all the time but ignore the good things he does on defense and offense.
Qwoaded for TroofTHATS WHY THE LAKERS WENT OUT OF THERE WAY TO SIGN HIM.SEXTON DID NOT HAVE ANY CONNECTIONS TO THE NBA LIKE SOME OF THE ONES THAT THE NEWS AND PEOPLE IN THE KNOW PUSH HE IS JUST A PERSON LIKE MOST OF US THAT HAS TO GO OUT AND MAKE IT ON HIS OWN.
"I feel like I'm the best defender on our team."
I don't agree, Sexton has just been fed minutes and scoring opportunities on a bad team that lacked veteran scoring options. Compared side by side per 100 possessions they are pretty similar.Dennis Schroeder can only dream of sexton's offensive tools, so not a good comparison
the hurdle is two fold:
1. you need to know you have a problem to fix it.
2. court awareness and hoops IQ is learned not only by playing, but understanding how and when to sacrifice. Some guys never learn that (or learn it way to late).
You can't practice feel for the game like you can a 3 point shot or a free throw. Sexton has improved the mechanical deficiencies in his game, hopefully he can improve the cerebral one.

Really? Just because schroder out up good numbers playing next to chris paul, on his 7th season, you declare sexton schroder-lite, when in fact, sexton has the better numbers on his 3rd yr than schroder on his 7th and most successful year. If anything, schroder is poor man's sexton.I don't agree, Sexton has just been fed minutes and scoring opportunities on a bad team that lacked veteran scoring options.
