At this point I"m going to assume that he is headed to RFA.
I don't think there is anyway both sides get together on a deal that works.
I think he's probably worth 20 million avg for 4 or 5 years no more than that.
Something like a Jarrett Allen type of contract. Maybe i'm undervaluing him.
Anyway if you were Koby what would you be offering Sexton contract wise? What is a fair contract offer?
I think the way they are using him in preseason, I wouldn't be surprised if he hopes to leave not because he won't get paid as much even though that is a factor, but because he has earned the minutes already and won't take being benched being the competitor he is. I mean if the plan is similar going into the season, they are going to screw him out of his chance at earning a bigger deal, obviously to their contract advantage, giving so many minutes to Rubio. I think even if it makes sense in the name of becoming a play in team, it probably is the ticket to being stuck in mediocrity or a one season anomaly, and not something that really makes the core better. If anything they will lose Sexton in free agency to a better org.

I like Sexton as a player but he simply doesn't seem to fit the make-up of our roster. Looking at systems, is there an NBA team that would benefit from his skillset more than the CAVS? I would love to see a win-win trade featuring Sexton without adding future picks.

I can't understand people making these claims at all especially given this team has no make up to speak of and if anyone is the odd man out now that Rubio is on board its little Darius. This not a fit idea even if true is a really bad reason to trade a good scorer if much of the team needs spoon fed the ball and your grandpas hot potato to get buckets game, just to think so we should get rid of a guy who can get his own shot? no no no
Mobley and Sexton are the future of this team if the Cavs want to really build a contender. Maybe Darius and Okoro can help or take another step as they improve, maybe not.

Sexton's natural role in the NBA is a microwave scorer off the bench. He may not know it yet – that's common for ball-dominant scoring guards on their rookie deals who've got way too many minutes and shots on bad teams – but he will.

I sure as hell wouldn't give up Sexton until Darius actually starts to outplay him. Right now it is pretty theoretical.

I've heard Sexton has good chemistry with Mobley and we haven't see it yet. I expect him and Rubio to start showing more too.

Still we need to see real games

Or he could just as easily become Donovan Mitchell or Lillard if he wasn't stuck playing next to Garland. You can suggest microwave is his floor and that is true, but not at all this kids ceiling in the NBA even if it is his natural role going forward with Garland Okoro etc in his way

Sexton being mentioned in the same sentence as Mitchell and Lillard is hilarious, especially considering how awful Sextons handle is.

Not really if you understood the point of having to play next to a pg like Garland instead of playing the position himself at this stage in his career. Both of those guards are score first guards same as Sexton they get more love and have much better supporting casts.

We definitely need to see real games first, but I don’t think we need to see Garland outplay Sexton in order to give him up. Heck, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that we jettison both of them in the next year or so.

Yeah I've begrudgingly come to the same conclusion. I don't want to trade either one esp Sexton because I've always had a place in my heart for hard working underdogs. With that said I'd deal either one for a young upcoming wing like Mikal Bridges. I'd trade them both for a young stud wing such as Jaylen Brown.

Honestly, I’m not expecting us to get much for them. Mikal Bridges, in my opinion, already holds more value than the two of them combined.

I would get rid of Koby and JBB before giving up any of our young guys. We need someone to create development plans for all these guys. Something more than just give them 30+ minutes a game and see what they choose to develop into.

I just don't feel Koby or JBB can stomach the ugly and bad play that is necessary for players to work on their flaws. None of our young players are well rounded enough that we can just let them work on specific areas and not develop others.

Better get on that (firing JBB and Altman) fast then, we have until the trade deadline to make a decision on Sexton (Unless you’re ok with potentially just letting him walk away next off-season)

Yikes. I just looked at Bridges numbers. He’s gotta be one of the most efficient players in the league right now. His %s are crazy, especially considering the amount of shots he took and how healthy he was.

He’s also taken big jumps each of the last two years.

Figure he’s going to be scoring over 20 at his peak and taking more foul shots. Wow.

Is he a good defender?

Yeah he is good. Lots of people liked him in 2018, but the thought was he was just 3 and D
