Coors Beer Exec Pleads Guilty to DWI
Beer Exec Pete Coors Pleads Guilty to Driving While Impaired, Gets Community Service Sentence

ABCnews.go.com

GOLDEN, Colo. Aug 25, 2006 (AP)— Beer executive Pete Coors pleaded guilty Friday to driving while impaired, a lesser charge than the DUI count filed against him after his May arrest, and was sentenced to 24 hours of community service.

The judge suspended a $200 fine, but ordered Coors to participate on a panel sponsored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving and to go through alcohol education courses. Coors' driver's license also was suspended for three months from the date of his arrest.

District attorney's spokeswoman Pam Russell did not immediately return a call.

The Denver Post reported that Coors entered the plea against the advice of his attorney because he thought the arrest had been an embarrassment to him and his company.

Coors, 59, vice chairman and a director of Molson Coors Brewing Co., was pulled over by a state trooper May 28 after he left a friend's wedding celebration.

Company spokeswoman Kabira Hatland has said Coors rolled through a stop sign a block from his Golden home and was stopped by the officer in his driveway. She said his blood-alcohol content after a breath test was 0.088 percent, above the 0.08 percent level at which a motorist is considered to be driving under the influence.

Coors often appears in television ads for the company and ran for the U.S. Senate as a Republican in 2004. He issued a statement last month apologizing for not following his own advice to drink responsibly.

someone was taping the rockies a little to hard.

oh and people who Drive Under the Influence should be sent to fight in the war for 3 months. with no opting out for prison instead.

Lets not lump everyone who has had a DUI in the same category. His BAC was only .088, barely over the legal limit, which actually used to be .10.

As opposed to someone who has a .17 BAC which is a high-end offense, with greater penalties than those less than that amount. And the danger to others is greatly increased.

He rolled thru a stop sign, which ive done many times totally sober. Perhaps the cop was fishing for an arrest. They can do that sometimes, and id say its definitely true that the money the court gets from the DUI fines is a motivating factor for DUI arrests. Its not all noble-like, money is definitely a factor IMO. He actually got a light sentence, and I wonder if his status was a factor in the sentencing. He got a lesser charge than a DUI, "driving while impaired", and im bettin plenty average Joes would have gotten a DUI in a similar situation.I wonder what is the most common misdemeanor. Id lay money its DUI's.

However, i definitely think if you're gonna drink, plan ahead and get a ride. Its not worth the risk to yourself or others. People have gotten killed from DUIs and it is serious. Im just sayin not all DUIs are the same.

I agree HPD.
But damn him of all people. I mean he can def. afford a limo, cab, or chaffuer. I'm sure he has done plenty of commercials and events stating the dangers of drinking and driving since he the president of a damn beer company. I also though about how I have heard numerous times that most accidents occur within a couple miles of most peoples homes. Granted he wasn't smashed but it could have been worse. I'm sure Ole Pete has quite a tolerance these days.

Wouldn't it be funny if they did testing and found out it was like Miller Lite :chuckles:
