I posted this in the general coronavirus thread, but I'm posting it as its own thread because it is actually important.

Here's something really good, and a way ordinary people can start fighting back. We all know there is a mask shortage, but apparently, there is good data supporting the idea that homemade masks can still be very effective. Not as good as "real masks", but of significant value nonetheless.

So, there is now a movement -- supported by the CDC -- to have those people who are capable -- perhaps older people more likely to have sewing machines, etc. -- to start making masks out of things like t-shirt, dish towels, and pillowcases. Hospitals really need them. Here are some links to patterns and instructions - send it to anyone you know who can help:

I know that the Cleveland Clinic is short masks for their nursing staff, so my mother in law is making a ton of these and sending them up to my stepdaughter who is a nurse there. So find some grannies, drop off the supplies, and make those old biddies earn their keep! Even if you can't sew yourself, perhaps funding the supplies for someone who can is a way to contribute.

So is there gonna be a coronavirus thread outside the political clusterfuck?

Apparently not. There supposedly is a non-political medical thread, but even that is contained in the political forum. And I'm not a participant there. Realistically, there are just some folks who are simply unable/unwilling to discuss this without bringing politics into it. So...we can't have nice things.

I'm just getting my coronavirus info at other websites, and via PM's with some other posters.
