Grizzlies could be looking to move Gasol and/or Mike Miller... we could use either one as a solid second scoring option.
Damon Stoudamire, would make a great backup PG for us contingent on the fact that we can sign someone at the starting role with the MLE or via another trade possibly involving Gooden. Mike Miller would give us a fairly good second option. He plays F but I think that he moves well enough on defense and would work well enough in our system to be able to hold it down against opposing shooting guards. He is not amazing at creating for himself but he is a solid jumpshooter and that is what we need. Hughes can create for himself and we see where that gets us. Besides, if we could fill 2 needs at the same time while unloading Hughes, I think it would be time to crack ipen the champagne. Whether the Griz agree to this or have any need for Larry is debatable but anything is possible so I figured we could explore the possibility.

Larry Hughes

for

Mike Miller and Damon Stoudamire

C- Ilgauskus
PF- Gooden
SF- James
SG- Miller
PG- FA/Gibson/Stoudamire

or

This one is probably less likely but I will throw it out there anyway

Larry Hughes and Drew Gooden

for

Pau Gasol and Damon Stoudamire

Our font court would be ridiculous with Ilgauskus and Gasol. Probably a pipe dream but hey, worth a look

C- Ilgauskus
PF- Gasol
SF- James
SG- Gibson/Brown
PG- FA/Stoudamire

Oops delete this I will just put it in the trade idea thread.

I don't think the griz will move Pau.

1) he is their star player
2) he has a big contract and has not been able to carry his team ala Lebron

However their may be a useful trade with the griz. The are tanking in a year where they really ought to be better.

I am thinking they will want to unload a bad contract (Brian Cardinal) but could give up two players without really hurting themselves. If they get expirings in return they can clear a little cap space for next year's FA market.

So I am sugesting Damon Jones, Ira Newble and Shannon Brown in return for Brian Cardinal, Hakim Warrick and Juan Carlos Navarro. I have always like Warricks game, and never thought him utilized by Memphis. Cardinal is a walking bad contract BUT his one redeemming quality is that he can shoot the lights out. He is shooting 573 from three point land this year but getting limited minutes. Would play a Donyell Marshall role if Hot Donny goes in for surgery. Of course the player I am really after is Juan Carlos. He is also hot from three point land, and would be another gibson in terms of speed and ability to space the floor for Lebron.

A negative to this idea is that none of these guys play defense, but then nobody on the griz appears to play defense as they all have high opponent PER numbers. Warrick in particular should be a defensive factor due to his length and athletic ability. Of course when compared to the guys we are giving up, I am not sure we lose much. Damon is a better defender than Shannon, (which is like saying dog poop tastes better than moose poop.) Ira is a good defender, and a team guy, but the truth is we just lose like crazy when he is in.

This is just a thought. If we can land Bibby with some of these peices that is a better option. But I am just not sure it is in the cards.

I would do any of these trades, but I doubt Memphis would consider them. No chance would they dump Gasol for that package, and I can't think of one reason for the life of me why they'd prefer Hughes over Miller. The third trade offers them very little at all other than 2 ending contracts, and in return we get back two young promising players in Warrick and Navarro? Sure, I'd take it.

if the Cavs could get Miller and whoever for Hughes I would be happy, Miller and Stoudamire would be very nice.

haha Ill take the reply even if it is months later!

No team in the NBA is going to trade for Hughes this year or next. It's just not going to happen. He has one of the worst contracts in the NBA.

Not if he keeps playing like he did tonight....

Eh finding a chunk of cubic zirconia in 3 years worth of dogshit isn't going to convince anyone to deal for him.

Larry Hughes dropping 36 points is like LeBron scoring 3 points. It's almost a complete improbability. I'd like to see the Vegas odds of Hughes scoring 36 or even 30+ on any given night.

I highly doubt he has another game like that as a Cavalier...hope I'm wrong.

I remember when Hughes for Mike Miller was offered after Hughes' first season here, and all Cavs fans thought we were getting ripped off, and though Larry just needed more time to gel with the team.

Its all in how he plays. If he takes it to the basket aggressively, and keeps his shooting form this will be a regular event. The entire team came out guns blazing and the Pacers went down in a ball of fire. If we come out for every game with that kind of attitiude, this will be fun..
