W/ us having our very own Mavs Fan in Funky. I'd like to know what Funky thinks of the first round match up. I believe the season series was tied at 2 a piece, or may be dallas was up 2-1, not sure. But, this will be a very exciting series that i think may go 6 or 7. Both teams match up pretty well. But, does Dallas have good enough D(not harping on past seasons, harping on what I've seen from the mavs this year). I've noticed they miss rotations, and still don't seem to be able to close down the lane enough. They have been playing much better D lately, and are peaking heading into the play offs. But, the biggest question mark w/ dallas is, is there defense good enough? Obviously they've got scorers.

As for Houston they've got alot of good defenders, and some great team defenders. Lots of experience and defensive minds. Mutombo, T-mac, Spoon, Padget, Wesley, James, Sura are all good team/individual defenders. The question is will they be able to score enough. They tend to go through severe scoring droughts at times, relying on their defense too much.

This will be a good series to watch.

Its going to be a great series. The only time the two teams have played eachother at full health was in December, as Dallas beat them 102-78. This was before Jason Terry (armstrong was the starting PG during that game) and Erick Dampier started playing well for us, as well as before the Rockets started playing good defense. This was also before the additions of Van Horn, Welsey and James additions from both teams. THe last time we played them we were missing Dirk, Damp, and Finley.

The big matchups are Josh Howard vs Tracy McGrady. The last time we played at full health Howard shut down McGrady for 15 points. Now I dont expect Howard to stop McGrady like he did, but I do hope he can stop him. I think Avery will have Finley on McGrady for the first half of the ballgame, to make sure Howard doesnt get into foul trouble.

Another big match is Dampier on Yao. They have only played three times this year and Yao Ming has been stopped. Yao only had 20/6 one night ,13/6, and 13/14 the other. Bradley has also stopped Shawn down this year when he has started in place of Dampier. Holding Yao to 14/11. I think that Yao has issues when he plays Centers that are around his size. Shawn has given him a lot of issues in the last three years.

The Rockets have NO ANSWER FOR DIRK now that Juwan Howard is injured.

This is what Dirk has done against the Rockets this year. (with Juwan Howard)

53 Points 16 rebounds 4 blocks 3 Steals 2 assits 1 TO
22 Points 14 rebounds 3 blocks 4 assists 0 TO
28 Points 3 rebounds 1 TO

We are 2-1 in the games we've played the Rockets this year with Dirk.

35 years old Clarence Weatherspoon on 26 year old Dirk Nowitzki. Just no way. They dont have any fowards that can take our fowards. Because after Dirk they have Keith Van Horn.

Since Avery Johnson has taken over the Mavericks are 16-2, and are allowing 92 PPG. Which is top 5 in the NBA.

Here are the stat breakdowns

PPG
Dallas 102.5 (3rd) - Houston 95 (20th)

FG%
Dallas .457 (8th) - Houston .443 (20th)

PPG Allowed
Houston 91 (3rd) - Dallas 96.7 (14th)

FG% Allowed
Houston .423 (2nd) - Dallas .438 (7th)

RPG (Rebounds Per Game)
Dallas 42.9 (8th) - Houston 42.3 (13th)

BPG (Blocks Per Game)
Dallas 5.6 (8th) - Houston 4.6 (16th)

SPG (Steals Per Game)
Dallas 8.6 (4th) - Houston 6.6 (23rd)

I say the Mavs take the series in 6.

Heres a great blurb I just read

Since Avery took over

Dallas is scoring 103.1 PPG and allowing 92.3 PPG. In average beating of over 10 PPG since Avery has taken over. We are also shooting 42.7 % since hes taken the team.
