Garland has become really, really good at moving without the ball.

We see multiple instances every game where Darius cuts and gets a layup from a Mobley feed, catches and fires a 3 from the corner after a scramble drill, etc. As much as Evan's emergence as a scorer has helped lately, Garland's ability and understanding of how to use that leverage has become equally important. They are truly becoming a frightening small/big tandem beyond the basic pick and roll.

I had to watch a stream last night so I got the Bulls broadcast. They do a good job of staying fairly objective and actually analyzing the game as it happens. They commented on Garland’s off ball movement a lot which made me notice it more. I think getting more comfortable with Mitchell and Rubio’s return have helped get him into this current groove where it just feels like he can do anything on the offensive end. The way he zips passes is so fun to watch, and we have big men with actually skilled hands to pile up his assists.

What’s most visually pleasing about his game might be his ability to change speed and direction. I love when he plants the pivot foot to lose his man and take the easy jumper. I love the way he bounces and then takes off on guys for a drive. He and Mitchell both have great body control, where Don is more athletic and can finish with just a sliver a daylight to the rim and Darius has a nearly perfect touch at various angles.

Before the trade I was among the many that found the pairing dubious due to their size and defensive reputation. Maybe we will see more issues exposed in the playoffs but they do their job well enough for Frobley to lock down the top defense in the league.

I love this team and I’m so glad they found the fun again.

The Bulls broadcast is my favorite to listen to in the league. They do a fantastic job of educating their fanbase on the players on the other team. You can tell they want Chicago to win obviously, but I agree they are as objective as you will find for a local crew.

Just tweeted this out. Despite Garland starting his career as one of the worst players in the NBA, per DPM (which is my favorite catch-all stat and I have talked about why before, but can clarify again if people would like), but has since caught up with Kyrie, Dame, and Deron Williams were at this point in their careers.

I don’t want to make a big deal because everyone has a bad day of work, but we need our leader a little more composed.

In seven Feb games he's shooting 58.5% from the field, 56.8% on 3's, and averaging 7 assists. The Cavs are 6-1 in those games.

It looks like he's fully recovered from the eye and wrist injuries and is hitting his stride. In the one loss (against Philly on the road), Darius was 10-for-14 (71%) while the rest of the team was 31-for-68 (46%). He's on top of his game now and I just hope he can stay healthy for the rest of the season.

Sweet. How do we keep him healthy in May?

Expand the rotation to include Neto for 5-10 minutes per game. You're not going to prevent freak accidents, but less exposure to the factors decreases their likelihood imo.

I know you didn't ask me this, but I saw an opening to compliment Neto.

This video is 6 months old, but it's still a good analysis of Darius' game:
