I still remember people giving Ty Lue shit for not playing this dude in the playoffs his rookie year...

He seemed.. better? Playing within himself running the floor with LbJ. Now he’s just chucking bullshit every game.

Cedi the chucker. There’s a reason he’s always open

No, he was a worse version of the same guy he is now.

He's always done horrible things to cost the team games. Ty Lue figured it out a long time ago and got killed for it.
I never understood why some thought Cedi would have been some savior during that playoff run.

Cedi has been a major disappointment and he appears to be blowing a golden opportunity this season. At the beginning of the year I thought his minutes would be cut significantly. The Cavs had just used their #5 pick on a small forward. They had Dylan Windler, a first round pick the year before, ready to go and they had been raving about him. There was also Kevin Porter Jr who was seen as a player who could handle the 2 or 3. Finally, the Cavs had been very successful at the end of the previous season with a big front line of Drummond or TT at center, Love at PF, and Nance at SF. It looked to me like Cedi would be the odd man out.

But not so fast. Porter started the season in time out and was traded. Windler missed some time with an injury. Love went down right away, forcing the Cavs to play Nance exclusively at the 4. Then Nance went down. Not wanting to start Wade at the 4 JBB replaced Nance with Cedi. The Cavs traded for Taurean Prince, but he also missed some games.

The end result is Cedi started 15 of 36 games in the first half and has played over 900 minutes so far. He's gotten a real opportunity. He's in his fourth NBA season and will be 26 next month. He has youth, experience, and he's gotten plenty of minutes. No excuses.

However, he's done nothing to establish a role going forward. In January he shot 38.9% from the field - an extremely low percentage. To make things worse, in February he shot 35.3%. On 3-point attempts he made 36.2% in January and 27.1% in February. In the first two games of March he's shooting 26.7%. Among league qualifiers he ranks 129 out of 130 in shooting percentage. In 3-point percentage he ranks 146 out of 162. In effective field goal percentage he ranks 122 out of 130.

According to cleaningtheglass.com, which ranks players against other players at their position, Cedi is in the 14th percentile in both effective field goal percentage and points per shot attempt. He's also a below average rebounder for a forward, ranking in the 40th and 41st percentile in percentage of offensive and defensive rebounds. He's in the 9th percentile in shot blocking percentage.

On the positive side he's a good passer, ranking in the 71st percentile in assists per usage rate. He also protects the ball very well, ranking in the 80th percentile in turnover percentage.

But the bottom line is that compared to other forwards in the league he's well below average as a scorer, a little below average as a rebounder, and is a very poor shot blocker. His best skill is passing; his assist rate is well above average and he doesn't make many bad passes.

Cedi has gotten a lot more minutes than I expected this year due to injuries and has not taken advantage of the opportunity. He's shooting under 39% in both January and February. Last night he was 1-for-8, including 0-for-5 on 3's, in a 3-point loss. His rebounding is marginal and he's not a great defender. With Nance expected to be in the lineup when the second half starts and with Prince back in the lineup I expect Cedi's minutes will continue to decline. He averaged 31.5 minutes in January and that declined to 21.5 in February. In the first two games of March it's down to 18.5.

The emergence of Dean Wade as a viable power forward will also factor in. I think there's a chance Cedi could fall out of the rotation completely now that we have both Nance and Wade at PF (and possibly Love). That creates a logjam at SF with Okoro, Windler, Prince and Cedi. My guess is that Okoro and Windler will get most of those minutes.

I hate to say it, but it's been four years now. We got what we got, the really sad part is, scroll down and look at his first year stats. He shot over 48% from the field his first year

I wonder if Lebron and the Lakers would be willing to take Cedi? He certainly seems to play his best when LeBron is on the court as a teammate or on the other sideline. I'd trade him for a couple of expiring players at the bottom of that Laker roster tbh. I'm actually hoping the Cavs can somehow deal either Cedi or Prince's contract for expirings before the deadline to free up some capspace for this summer. If they let Drummond walk they could actually have room under the cap to acquire a very good backup PG in free agency this offseason (Dinwiddie comes to mind).

I have said for the past two years that Cedi is nothing more than a 7th or 8th man off the bench! He will have some nice games, show flashes at times but bottom line he is JAG and on a really good team would barely see the floor! The same goes for Windler!

If they dump Osman for expirings, the Cavs would have slightly more than the MLE in cap space for a free agent. If not, they'll only have a couple million most likely.

I would still do it to take the option of playing him away from Bickerstaff, but there's almost no chance they can clear enough salary to have significant cap room next offseason.

You and I are pretty much done now that you have cemented Windler's fate and intertwined it with Cedi.

Seriously, can we stop that super early projections, especially when said player has played well?

Windler is a first year player that made nine three pointers in a row, I gladly wait to see how he does next year. If he's doing the same thing three years from now I'll give up

I think the Cavs didn't develop Cedi properly. The thing that has always held him back in his sloppy dribbling and passing with no touch. They had the chances in his second year to correct this by playing him on the ball and asking him to playmake but instead they forced him to play out of position at PF alot. They had their chances to do this early in the rebuild because of the lack of ball handlers but as time went on they needed the ball in Sexton and Garland's hands to develop them.

It's basically shows the importants of having plug in players so guys can play in their proper position and taking advantage of development windows when the roster allows it. Cedi needed to build up his guard skills not his PF skills to be successful in the NBA. The skills that he had naturally seem to make him more of a SG/SF vs SF/PF.

A change of scenery may do him a world of good.
