Are we sure he doesn't have a sick child or wife potentially and they are protecting his families' privacy?

I think the NBA requires general disclosure for injury reports (illness, personal, injury specifying body part etc). The disclosure we've seen is knee, not personal. But we don't know for sure and there's lots of reasons an athlete is unavailable.

I know what you are saying, but they have lied before. I know the Cavs have.

Who knows.

I think a lot of people are having trouble understanding how Dean has his best game in the NBA and one of the best fourth quarters I’ve seen against Boston. Few days later goes on paternity leave and never plays another game this year.

That’s just objectively hard to reconcile in your head. And it feels like there’s a missing link there.

Wish Dean the best. Still one of the more bizarre season ends I’ve seen.
I've seen a couple different reports now that said the same thing. Looks like he was going through a full speed practice/scrimmage after the week or so off for paternity leave and hurt the knee. Which would be the most Dean Wade/Cavs thing - "Hey let's practice so you don't get injured jumping back into game speed" - gets injured in that practice and doesn't play another game.

It would have to be listed as personal reasons.
