DALLAS – Dallas Mavericks guard Delonte West has been suspended for "conduct detrimental to the team'' after a late Monday locker-room incident in which the guard "cut it loose,'' according to a source.

"Cut it loose'' would seem to be a polite way to describe an action so negative that Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said he was obligated to announce the suspension shortly after the team's 124-103 preseason home-opening win over the Houston Rockets. Carlisle neither described the incident nor specified a timetable for West's return.

West participated in the game, playing 17 minutes (scoring two points with two assists). It is not known if playing time is associated with his locker-room behavior, but he is part of a crowded backcourt in which newcomers Darren Collison and OJ Mayo start ahead of him. Younger players Dominique Jones and Jared Cunningham played most of the fourth-quarter minutes as the backcourt combo in sealing the win.

The veteran West has been forthcoming about his bipolar disorder, which he manages with the help of medication. For the most part, the fan-favorite has been a positive for Dallas – and cited by Carlisle as such – in part due to his openness about his hard-knocks background.

If anyone can find any info on what he actually did or more info on the suspension, please post it. Man, I feel sorry for the guy. He seems like he is good hearted but just has problems.

He has a lot of talent and heart. I wish he could regain his 2009 form. He was fantastic. One of the funniest things I ever saw was when he grew his hair out for a long time in corn rows, and then released this giant red fro for a suns game. It was amazing.

That was quick. Must have not been that bad.

Anybody else follow him on twitter. Guy makes me laugh with his "english".

One of the few guys in the NBA I pull for consistently. I never saw him take a play off and he played his heart out regardless of the situation. I have always wanted nothing but the best for Delonte and I hope he figures it out, but it is clearly a process.

Delonte West suspended again
Udated: October 25, 2012, 1:49 PM ETBy Tim MacMahon | ESPNDallas.com

The Dallas Mavericks have suspended guard Delonte West again for the second time in less than a month.

"We have suspended Delonte for conduct detrimental to the team," president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said in a statement. "The suspension is effective immediately and no other statements will be issued.

When reached by ESPNDallas.com on Thursday morning, West said he was being blamed for an argument between teammates after the Mavs' 88-76 exhibition loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night in Wichita, Kan. He said he got a text Thursday morning telling him not to come to the American Airlines Center for practice.

"There was an argument between two teammates in the locker room last night that didn't involve me," said West, who had two points, one assist and three turnovers in 21 minutes against the Thunder. "Somehow I'm being blamed for it. I had nothing to do with it. I don't know what's going on."

The statement gave no reason for the suspension. Coach Rick Carlisle had suspended West for conduct detrimental to the team Oct. 15 after a locker-room outburst. The Mavericks reinstated West less than 24 hours later after he met with Carlisle and Nelson.

The team would not elaborate on the outburst at that time.

"There was an outstanding issue, and we needed to talk about it," Carlisle said after the initial suspension. "He needed to refocus, and he's in the process of doing that. It's going to be work. It's going to be daily work for him to do that, and I've got to help him and our organization is going to help him, too. It's not that big a deal."

West took to Twitter immediately after word of the suspension was released. He said that his name showing up in a negative light is the worst thing that can happen and makes everything he's worked for go out the window.

West has had run-ins with the law in the past and revealed in 2009 that he suffers from bipolar disorder. He was suspended for the first 10 games of the 2010-11 season after pleading guilty to weapons charges in Maryland. Authorities say he was carrying three loaded guns and a knife when he was stopped for speeding on a three-wheel motorcycle in 2009.

Last season, he proved to be a valuable contributor for the Mavericks, averaging 9.6 points in 44 games. His tweets Thursday, though, seem to indicate that his days in Dallas are numbered.

"If I'm not what u lookin 4 ....That's fine...just dont kick me in my ass on the way out the door....I didn't do anything to deserve that..." West tweeted, followed two minutes later by: "I love the city of Dallas..I love playin in the NBA...no I'm not off my meds...no I ain't on no bipolar trip...this real people lives....And it just ain't right..imma leave it at that..no ill will towards no one...I'm just sittin here across from the arena wit tear in my eyes."

Yes clearly a process....

Obviously he screwed Dirk's mom while riding a 3 motorcyle and carrying guns and sipping rasmarbury iced tea.

Simply. Awesome.
There couldn't be a better guy in the NBA, from a pure entertainment standpoint.

That said...glad he's moved on, wouldn't want him around our core.

.Source: Delonte West done with Mavs

DALLAS -- Suspended guard Delonte West will not return to the Dallas Mavericks, a source said.

The team is in the process of negotiating terms of West's departure with his agent, Dan Fegan, after the fiery guard was suspended Thursday for conduct detrimental to the team. It was the second time the team suspended West in two weeks, although the first suspension lasted only 21 hours, ending after West met with coach Rick Carlisle and president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson.

The source said both suspensions stemmed from frequent behavioral missteps by West, an eight-year veteran who was a valuable role player for the Mavs last season, averaging 9.6 points and 3.2 assists while playing tenacious defense at both guard spots....

The Dallas tenure is a wrap....I wonder if anyone will take a chance on him?

I dont see ANY reason why the Cavs would waste there time with him. He's just too emotionally unstable to be around a young team. He'd be probably thrive (well not thrive but succeed) in Boston, if they didnt have Lee, Bradley and Terry. Depending on Mike Browns personal relationship with Delonte, i think he'd be a good fit in with the Lakers. They need a backup pg and he could even log some minutes at the 2 in small lineup with Kobe and Nash also in the backcourt.

Delonte might be done for good. It would be a sad day.
