Delonte again

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He made me practice that turnaround fade for hours cause he was so good at it. Such an easy shot to get off on lazy defenders. He was a great post up guard

Remember when we got Mo and we wondered if the 2 could exist? Then we had the best run in Cavs History. That was the team in 2009 that I felt like was our destiny team. 2016 was cool as hell, but sometimes I feel like it was just payback for the 2009. I loved that team more than any I ever have. It was just filled with guys that were awesome.

Ben Wallace Breaking his leg, and Z's back being hurt really screwed us big. Wish we had rested Z down the stretch more.

Big bens sole purpose was to defend big man and his injury really fucked us

damn brother redz downfall has been so quick, who knows what a ring would of done for him

arguably our second bestplayer that regular season

post season we decided to put him on someone7 inches taller

So the story about him and lebrons mom were true ? I always thought it was some rumor

I think the problems here go beyond just mental health and drugs. Imagine training your whole life to do one thing, and then at age 30 you can't do that one thing anymore. What do you do with your life? Some athletes use their connections to transition smoothly into a cushy second career in some sports-related issue. Other athletes develop completely new passions and follow them. But then there are athletes who really don't have a life outside of their sport...and that puts them in a tough place mentally, even before you add in factors like drugs and mental illness.

Eh everyone changes careers essentially, athletes have an easier time than most. This is a lot of schizophrenia and some bipolar and probably drugs

Damn was about to post to see if anyone else saw the video. Shit was heartbreaking and disturbing at the same time. He literally got his head ghetto stomped in broard daylight in thr middle of busy the street and no one helped. He's lucky to be alive. I still remember my buddy who was working at Quicken at the time telling me the rumors about him and Brons mom a few weeks before it became national news. I thought it was pure bullshit. Shit been down hill for him since. Hopefully the NBA or even maybe Dan can help him out.
Dude literally kick started Red's head like it was a Harley. In broad daylight in the middle of traffic. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The video where Red was dancing for money in traffic looked much safer all things considered.

Shit was wild! Hope he gets some help immediately or he could end up in a ditch somewhere no joke!

They are 100 percent true. One of my good friends at the time told me about the rumors before they be came public he was junior exec at Quicken loans. Skip even talked about it today.

I'll admit, I wanted to jest that it's time for Gloria to stage an intervention when I first saw the video, but she literally should because it could save Red's life.

Of course, the internet would light up like Pyongyang at dawn if that happened.

Easier time in what way? I mean, money, obviously, but other than that...specialized athletic skills don't translate into a "normal" career in any obvious way unless you're super famous and/or have the right connections.

Lotss of connections, people who have been there and have made it work around them, coaching and broadcasting opportunities, typically some capital to work with, appearances or whatever to make, lesser leagues to play in etc etc

The guy who drove trucks for a decade is a lot more vulnerable when finding a new career than an ex pro athlete

So... the reason this is true is because someone heard the rumours before the press? How does that make it true? In fact yesterday i saw a piece on him that said they asked him directly and he denied.

Yeah, I'm not disagreeing with that. But clearly there are guys like Delonte who don't have the right skills to get into coaching/broadcasting, and whose connections largely abandon them or turn on them when the money dries up. Is it a worse situation than being a disabled former truck driver at the same age? No. But it might make sense for a league as rich as the NBA to do a little bit more for ex-players attempting to transition to a normal, healthy post-basketball life. Not give them more money, obviously, but maybe put them in contact with volunteer retired NBA players who can give advice on the transition and money management stuff?
