I come from three generations of Yankee Haters BUT IMHO Derek Jeter exemplifies "Baseball Player" better than anyone I've seen. (Once upon a time that distinction belonged to Charlie Hustle).

I'd be a big fan of Derek Jeter if he weren't a Yankee.
Also, the Re2pect hats annoyed me. Breathless descriptions of otherwise pedestrian fielding moments were irritating.
Doesn't mean he isn't one of the best to ever play.

Tyra Banks is a stain on his resume and on humanity as well.

God bless the voter who left this man off their HOF ballot. A true American hero.

Yeah I'm enjoying for the time being at least that the only player to ever go in unanimously is a reliever, don't get me wrong one of the best ever at that position but still over the history of the game and the players that have come through it still pretty weird.

Bob Costas made an interesting point on the MLB Network show BEFORE the HOF announcement. To paraphase:
An argument can be made that Mariano (Rivera) is by any measure the greatest reliever to play the game of baseball. (Derek) Jeter is clearly worthy of being in the HOF but by some measurements some could say another player Honus Wagner or Ozzie Smith or someone else was the absolute best SS to ever play the game.

I wish the baseball writers would just vote for guys if they think they’re a hall of famer.

There’s too much “well, he’s not a first ballot guy” or they don’t want his vote% to be too high. Ridiculous.

Either a guy is a hall of famer or they aren’t. Stop dragging shit out for a decade.

Jeter gets in year 1
Walker gets in his 10th and final chance.

Why does MLB hate Canadians?

If Jeter wasn't a Yankee he waits at least 1 or 2 years before getting in. He wasn't even the best SS on his team. Although he wasn't roiding and Alex was. But Alex was better. His Gold Gloves are all a sham. He made the splash plays but wasn't a good defender at all.

How long until Peyton Mannings backup QB gets into the HoF?

3465 hits is what made him a first ballot HOF'er, not his Yankees uniform.

I really don't understand all the hate for Jeter.

The whole "first ballot HoF" thing is dumb to me anyways.

Larry Walker wasn't considered a Hall of Famer in 2010, but he is now? It's just the BBWA flexing their muscles. We've seen too many guys get screwed over and either never get in, or have to be inducted posthumously because of this.

Jeter is a Hall of Famer, no doubt. Regardless of his uniform, that's true. He certainly gets propped up more due to the pinstripes, that's inarguable, but a Hall of Famer is a Hall of Famer.
